Environmental Health Education and Equity Specialist (Public Health Educator 2)
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Environmental Public Health Section in Portland, OR is recruiting for an Environmental Health Education and Equity Specialist to develop and implement culturally-responsive health education materials and interventions for the Environmental Pubic Health section to reduce environmental exposures in Oregon communities. The Environmental Public Health Section identifies, assesses and reports on threats to human health from exposure to environmental and occupational hazards, and advises the people and communities of Oregon to best understand potential risks where they live, work and play in order to remain healthy and safe.

What will you do?
As the Environmental Health Education and Equity Specialist, you will work with EPH staff to identify the strengths and needs of communities in Oregon who are disproportionately affected by environmental exposures and develop culturally-responsive health education interventions. You will document activities undertaken and report these activities on a regular basis to the funding agency and stakeholders. As needed, you will create new educational materials or revise existing materials to meet specific needs within communities of Oregon.
In this position, you will disseminate information, resources, and materials to the public in affected communities of Oregon. You will also connect with and provide information to local health departments and other partners regarding health education interventions targeted for specific communities and populations. You will work closely with program coordinators and toxicologists to translate the technical health assessment information into language and formats that are readily understandable to the public, the media, and other audiences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in a health or education related field AND three years of progressively responsible professional level experience in public health, community health, or environmental health;
OR
A Master’s degree in a health or education related field AND one year of progressively responsible professional level experience in public health, community health, or environmental health.
REQUESTED SKILLS
- Experience in environmental health outreach providing information regarding environmental and occupational hazards
- Experience developing educational/training materials and facilitating training sessions
- Ability to design and/or develop publications using computer applications
- Proficient in business and publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Visio and Outlook
- Ability to meet critical deadlines imposed by the Public Health Division, Oregon Health Authority, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the ability to respond to scrutiny by those parties
- General knowledge of marketing concepts for public and non-profit organizations
- Familiarity with webpage design and maintenance, with respect to information content
- Good communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal) are required to communicate with groups of people with various levels of education
- Ability to work in settings with diverse populations
- Good understanding of the basic principles of public health education
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to be cooperative and collaborative; and work well in a team environment
- Rigorous adherence to the highest standards of confidentiality regarding patient information
