What if I have fulfilled a prerequisite requirement and the registration system says I haven’t?

January 31st, 2013

If the prerequisite coursework was transfer or post-bacc coursework, the registration system likely did not recognize it as fulfilling the prerequisite. This is common for semester system transfer credits that articulate as LDT or UDT, rather than an equivalent OSU course; or, for post-bacc coursework that is not articulated to a student’s OSU transcript. A general rule is that you should contact the instructor for the class directly.  In your communication, be sure to include everything the instructor will need to make the decision – for example, Student ID, CRN for the course you want to register for, a clear argument and evidence that you have completed the prerequisite coursework. If the instructor grants permission to register for the course, they will notify the administrative support staff for the department and request that a course overrride be processed.  If necessary, your advisor can also help facilitate the course override process.  TIP: If you know that you may have a prerequisite issue for a course of interest, resolve it IN Advance of your priority registration date so that you can register without interruption.
