The new OSU brand is more than the new logo. A consistent and powerful brand will increase awareness and support for the university’s mission of teaching, research and outreach. Undeniably, some patience will be required as tools and resources become available, but there is information to help you adjust to the new brand.

Video produced by Stephen Ward, Extension and Experiment Station Communications, and edited by Jill Wells, Extension Administration

Wild Rivers Coast Alliance collaborates with Oregon State University on local seafood issues, invasive species and most recently on tourism. Scott Reed, vice provost for University Outreach and Engagement and director of OSU Extension Service, traveled to Bandon on the South Coast to meet the people and organization that offers office space and introductions to regional tourism collaborators to one of the newest positions in OSU Extension: Associate Professor Miles Phillips, tourism and business development specialist. Community partnerships are focused on helping the South Coast thrive.

Community vitality and whiteboarding—yes, it is a real verb—come together in the February First Monday Video. Lindsey Shirley, associate provost of University Outreach and Engagement and associate director of OSU Extension Service, and Jeff Sherman, assistant director of University Outreach and Engagement, demonstrate their collective innovation and problem-solving process. They want your input into their community vitality process and outcome.

Working in partnership with communities is essential to the mission and goals of University Outreach and Engagement. So essential, in fact, that three of the Division’s five strategic goals mention community. A prize awaits the first person to correctly identify and post them in the comments below. But more than that, what are new ways to engage our communities that we should begin planning for in the next legislative biennium? Scott wants your ideas.

To connect with underserved communities and encourage them to experience the great outdoors, Extension in Linn and Benton counties collaborate with community partners to produce “Get Outdoors Day.” Tune into this month’s video to learn how the event is relevant, fun and friendly to hundreds of kids and the Latino community.

Healthy communities are important to our quality of life. Vince Adams, extension educator and coordinator of the Rural Communities Explorer (RCE), joined Scott for this month’s First Monday video. RCE is a web-based tool that provides demographic and economic indicators about all–rural and urban–communities in Oregon and should be used by Extension and community leaders as a resource to identify areas of community strengths and challenges. Vince announced that a new more intuitive RCE interface will launch at the end of October.

Let us know how you have used RCE in your community work by commenting on the blog.

Congratulations to Marilyn Lesmeister for sharing her thoughts on innovation on the O&E blog. The Innovator’s Dilemma, by bestseller author Clayton Christensen, will be heading her way. Thank you, too, to the others that shared how they focus on innovation. Click here to read all the comments.

After months of work and input from more than 300 people within the Division of University Outreach and Engagement, the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan is written, packaged and will be delivered the week of August 8 to all locations within the Division. Next step? Prioritizing resources and areas of focus, identifying the measurable metrics of progress, and beginning the implementation phase.

This month’s First Monday Video introduces Jeff Sherman who is charged with coordinating the next phase of the plan.

Poster_11x17_2A team will be formed around each of the Division’s five goals. Would you like to add your voice to one of the teams? Contact Jeff.Serman@oregonstate.edu. We welcome – and encourage – your participation!

The next Quarterly Conversation on August 19, beginning at 9 a.m. in Kidder 202 (and also live-streamed) will talk more about the plan, in addition to a Q&A about the recent changes within the Division of University Outreach and Engagement and marketing initiatives underway.

Tune in to the August 19 Quarterly Conversation and ask the questions that are on your mind, or ask questions using the comment section of the O&E Blog.

O&E First Monday Update July 2016

New marketing initiatives are underway in the Division. Hear about them in this month’s First Monday—which actually is being released on Tuesday—video. Benny the Beaver will be appearing at 31 county fairs to create awareness of OSU and support OSU Extension community engagement efforts. Benny, who is a very engaging beaver, met with Vice Provost Scott Reed and Lindsey Shirley, Associate Provost and Associate Director of OSU Extension.

Use the blog’s comment section to share your ideas on how we can reach more Oregonians through OSU Extension.

Thanks to Steven Ward and Lynn Ketchum from EESC who did this month’s video under the direction of Jill Wells. Promotional videos are being produced for use by each Extension office where Benny will appear (also Jill’s idea!).

Stay tuned for information about the recent changes in the Division.

In the meantime, learn more about the Division and its work and people with this month’s O&E Blog posts.
