Scott Reed introduces Becca Gose, general counsel for OSU, in this month’s First Monday Update. “It’s not ‘who you gonna call,’ but ‘when are you gonna call,’” as Scott points out. The Office of General Counsel was essential to the process of bringing Outdoor School on board. The team is a resource to provide you with the legal advice to do your job. Becca shares scenarios where a call to her office is essential.

What about key things to do and not do with classified employees?
Lynn,
Becca Gose responded to your question:
“Great question! I recommend that you start with Viki Dimick-Jackson in Employee & Labor Relations (Office of Human Resources) with questions around the rules for classified employees and the in’s and out’s of the Collective Bargaining Agreements with SEIU or CGE.”
Hope this is helpful.
This question came from Shelby Filley:
Thanks Becca! It would be helpful if you and Dr. Reed could have a session on the importance of us remaining impartial with clientele and how if we testify in court for one side or another, we may alienate the people we work with. You could explain what other type of trouble we could get ourselves into when we respond to an inquiry about our opinion of a situation from a lawyer. Thank-you, Shelby
Stay tuned for Becca’s response.
I noticed one of the candidates for Benton county commissioner, whom I believe is an OSU employee, had videos on his Facebook page for his campaign that are filmed in a room with white and orange walls, and a large whiteboard. Classroom looking, I thought. If these campaign videos were filmed on OSU property would this be a violation of some kind? It seems to me it could be since OSU is a public institution and therefore the person is a public employee using a public facility for campaign purposes? Thanks.
Thank you for your concern. I quote from our “Audit Services” page:

Hello,
I would like guidance around creating a student contract for our Summer Bridge program based on some challenges that we experienced running it last week. Is this something your office can help us with?

Thanks for your request, Leela. I have forwarded it to OSU’s Office of General Counsel.
