  1. I’m looking forward to a trip to Seattle next week with my family. We’re planning on introducing our kids to some of Seattle’s iconic destinations including Pike Place, the Space Needle and the new ferris wheel. We’ll also get to a Mariners game and will spend time with friends just north of Seattle in Edmonds.

  2. I am going to northeast Arizona to my husbands land on the Navajo Reservation to attend his cousins traditional Healing Ceremony (rare event). Total dry camping since there is no running water or electricity (no cell service). Lot of food, family, and a new experience for me.

  3. Last week I took a whole week’s vacation away from Extension work. No computer, no phone. Once the withdrawal shakes ended after a few days, it was a wonderful mental break! There are a few other folks like me out there in Extension-land who are also compulsive/obsessive about responding to our work messages as they pop up in our faces. May I suggest that it’s actually healthy, and productive, to put some parameters on working? I’m going to strive for a better work/life balance, which can improve both sides of the equation.

  4. With three weddings (2 of which are daughters), a new grand baby (love, love, love), and aging parents there will be no ‘formal’ destination vacation. However, there is lots of family time!

    • Summer has me and our 4-H staff busy with Fair, camps, and teacher in-services, but my wife and I are taking a week in min-August to go camping on the southern Oregon coast. You would think I get enough camping with 4-H, but it is nice to get away to beautiful places without all the responsibilities. I am following Robin’s vision, a work/life balance is in my cards too. It helps keep me energized and my creative juices flowing.

  5. Classified Staff don’t earn as much vacation as Professional Faculty commenters, so … no summer vacation for me, but saving hours for the winter holidays.

  6. I had a stay-cation earlier this month when my 11-month old grandson visited (with his parents) for 2 weeks. We had some first steps together, and he cleaned out some drawers and cupboards in my kitchen for me. I’m visiting my youngest son in Boulder over Labor Day. I think we are going to spend some time at a Black Mountain (Dude) Ranch on horses or hike in Rocky Mountain State Park. Maybe both.

  7. I was able to sneak in a quick trip to Hawaii over an extended weekend in late July. We are waiting until fall to do our family vacation to Disneyland.
