Thanks for all that info, Scott. I had a great Saturday at the Benton Co. Master Gardener plant sale. It was my first time there. What an operation! And so many smiling faces! I sat near the exit for a while and saw so many excited gardeners ready to get started in earnest in their gardens (myself included). This is the first year they accepted credit/debit cards for payment, which, BTW, enticed us to spend about 3 times what we would have! Thanks for the convenience, Master Gardeners.
It’s good to hear that there is lots going on all over the state! This weekend I spent some quality time at the fairgrounds — all Saturday and Sunday! Saturday was the swine weigh day (132 pigs!) and our spring livestock judging contest. Then Sunday, we held a 4-H Horse Gaming clinic. It was beautiful weather and a perfect weekend to see 4-H kids so excited about their animal projects!
Hi Scott, thanks for the invitation to comment on the Manifesto. Just a couple of thoughts:
University Integration — I’m uncomfortable that the language seems to put the responsibility solely upon Extension educators’ shoulders to “reach internally and connect with campus faculty.” Instead, it seems to me that this would be successfully accomplished as a result of campus and Extension faculty building a bridge towards each other. How can this be framed as a collaboration?
Demand-Driven — I think “demand-driven” also has to extend to the Extension staffing needed to accomplish the goals. I wonder if “demand-driven” and “university integration” could meet in a collaboration to help enroll and graduate more bilingual teachers for K-12?
