  1. Scott, thanks for the update!

In response to your question about what we are doing to stay physically fit — I’ve been working with Guido Van Ryssegem (a Clinical Athletic Trainer at Dixon) and one of his wonderful students, Casey. Guido leads a program where OSU employees and students can get help recovering from physical injuries, for example back pain from sitting too much, to generally increasing physical health and strength.

I highly recommend the program to anyone who is struggling to recover from an injury or who would like help with a training program. It is quite affordable and they are wonderful to work with.

    Thanks again for the update!

  2. Hi Scott,
Great update today! I was pleased to learn where to find the OSU/Community College talking points and will share that with my colleagues at CGCC.
Also exciting to hear that One Oregon initiative is looking at experiential education opportunities. I wonder if this may include internships in rural areas?
Lastly, in the realm of physical activity… this has been something that I have struggled with. I recently purchased a wearable health monitor … not a Fit bit, but a much more affordable model with funny name … called a Misfit! It actually fits right into my life and is very user friendly! I find that I am much more conscience of getting enough movement to meet my goal and am also able to see how this is impacting my sleep. Syncs to my phone , waterproof and runs on a battery that I don’t have to recharge, so I can leave it on all the time and easily monitor my progress during the day!
    Have a great week!

  3. In general, I am someone who doesn’t sit still for very long, in fact my whole family is like this. But one thing we have been doing for the past couple of years, that we really enjoy as a family is going for evening walks down our street. The only time we won’t go is when its raining horizontally–a little rain and we keep going. Its also become a nice way of getting to know more of our neighbors, especially the ones that live further down the street from us.

  4. Thanks for the update, Scott.

I usually take the stairs. And I try to make a point to do so especially on the days when I don’t feel like doing it!

  5. My two dogs take me for walks every morning and evening. On weekends we like to take longer hikes off leash–Willamette Park and Ona Beach are favorites. Also, I just got a FitBit which is keeping me motivated.

  6. Thank you for the update, Scott. Running is my preferred method of staying physically and mentally fit. I love the social aspect of it as well — running buddies are the best! Hiking ranks high on my list of favorite activities as well.

  7. Thanks to those that responded with fitness and other comments. I am constantly looking for variety to keep exercise interesting. This year, I added surfing to my list of habits, and just returned from several days of instruction while on a short spring break vacation. Maybe more on a future blog!
