There are two different types of student advising.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The <strong>Masters of Education Program<\/strong> <strong>Coordinator<\/strong> is responsible for advising students when they are accepted into the program until they graduate, serving all students throughout the process. The program coordinator:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Orientate to Oregon State University, the College of Education, and the EdM program<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that college and graduate school policies are presented and followed<\/li>\n<li>Assist in course selection<\/li>\n<li>Process required forms: <em>Leave of Absence, Program of Study, Schedule Events<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Monitor progress toward degree completion<\/li>\n<li>Assign a major professor for the capstone project<\/li>\n<li>Organize graduation logistics: inviting graduate committee members, scheduling rooms, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The current coordinator is <a href=\"mailto:amy.hoffman@oregonstate.edu\">Amy Hoffman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>A faculty member is assigned a <strong>major professor<\/strong> to advise students on the final examination (capstone project) and preparation for the oral exam. Major professors:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the capstone project proposal<\/li>\n<li>Guides and advise literature review and development of capstone project<\/li>\n<li>Serve on the oral exam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/education.oregonstate.edu\/people\"><strong>Faculty and Staff Directory<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Advising is an important profession responsibility of the EdM program coordinator and faculty within the College of Education.
