Pacific Division Annual Meeting in Vancouver BC. The papers compared and contrasted the activity of art appreciation to the activity of \u201cstriving play\u201d (after C. Thi Nguyen).<\/p>\n<p>On April 11-12 Philosophy Professor <strong>Sharyn Clough<\/strong> co-facilitated a 2-day workshop with Paul K. Chappell on Peace Literacy Skills and Curriculum-Building for faculty and administration at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. His research focuses on how users generated unique, affectively laden responses to that campaign. Mozart\u2019s \u201cGreat\u201d Mass in C minor on April 28 with the Festival Chorale at the Elsinore Theatre in Salem. The new edition of the work gathers together \u201cmusical scraps\u201d left behind by Mozart that were used in performances\u00a0 during the composers lifetime and since gathered by scholars in an attempt to complete the entire mass.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Music\u00a0<strong>Michael Gamble<\/strong>\u00a0recently performed several shows throughout the San Francisco Bay area with acclaimed drummer Scott Amendola from The Nels Cline Singers and bass player Nate Brenner of Tune-Yards. Next week, Gamble will head to New Orleans, Louisiana to perform at the 50<sup>th<\/sup>anniversary New Orleans Jazz Festival, where\u00a0 he will collaborate with Todd Sickafoose, James Singleton, Justin Peake and many other notable musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Music\u00a0<strong>Dana Reason\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0composition \u201cShe Breathes Water\u201d was premiered at the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon on April 26. The work is part of the collaborative installation \u201cDesert Reflections: Water Shapes the West\u201d on display at the museum through September 29.\u00a0 Other collaborators included Bend spoken word artist Jason Graham a.k.a. MOsley WOtta, Klamath Modoc visual artist Ka\u2019ila Farrell-Smith, and Eugene-based mixed-media art collective Harmonic Laboratory. OSU faculty and students from many disciplines contributed research to the project:\u00a0<strong>Andrew Myers\u00a0<\/strong>(art faculty), <strong>Jayanthi Joseph<\/strong> (microbiology graduate student), <strong>Janie Anderson<\/strong> (undergraduate music), <strong>Max Winer<\/strong> (undergraduate music and religious studies), <strong>Paris Myers<\/strong> (undergraduate bioengineering and fine arts).<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Guitar\u00a0<strong>Cameron O\u2019Connor<\/strong>\u00a0was a featured performer on the \u201cClassical Up Close\u201d chamber music series presented by musicians from the Oregon Symphony at St. Mary\u2019s Cathedral in Portland. Following the performance, O\u2019Connor was interview on stage by Portland All-Classical Radio host Christa Wessel.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Professor of Music Technology\u00a0<strong>Jason Fick<\/strong>\u00a0was recently elected as president for the College Music Society Pacific Northwest Chapter. CMS is a long-standing institution in the academic music area; the Pacific Northwest chapter has nearly 300 active members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jun Bum Shin<\/strong>, assistant professor of graphic design, has an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tDCLuYupyaM\"> interactive media<\/a> (data visualization) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sac.or.kr\/SacHome\/exhibit\/detailE?searchSeq=38014\">exhibition<\/a> titled, \u201cKorean Gardens, A Mystic Promenade:\u00a0The Creation of Strolling Through&#8221; at the Seoul Arts Center, Hangaram Design Museum, in Seoul, Korea, April 18-May 19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Recurring Events<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>A<\/strong><b>nnual <span class=\"il\">da<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Vinci<\/span> Days STEAM Speaker Series<\/b> will offer the public opportunities to explore the art and science of waves, from the depths of the ocean to the haunting tones of a one-of-a-kind musical instrument and the intersections of art and water.
