Ngai is a professor of Asian American Studies and history at Columbia University. Her research focuses on immigration, citizenship, and nationalism. She is the author of &#8220;Impossible Subjects: Illegal Aliens\u00a0and the\u00a0Making of Modern America&#8221; (2004), which won six major book awards; and &#8220;The Lucky Ones: One Family and the Extraordinary Invention of Chinese America&#8221;\u00a0(2010). The lecture considers ways in which children and the idea of childhood are depicted in postcolonial African literature written in English. George will explore the connections between literature, individuality and collective social experience in African countries since the 1960s. Navigating the Blurry Line Between Participation and Observation while Filming &#8216;Hippie Family Values.'&#8221; Seckinger will speak from <strong>12-12:50 p.m.<\/strong> in <strong>LINC Room 302<\/strong>. She\u00a0will be the narrator for \u2018The Carnival of the Animals\u201d which will be the finale of the Willamette Apprentice Ballet concert to be held at the LaSells Stewart Center on March 8.<\/p>\n<p>Professor of History <strong>Christopher McKnight Nichols<\/strong>\u00a0was on OPB&#8217;s Think Out Loud with Dave Miller on Friday, March 1 as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/radio\/programs\/thinkoutloud\/segment\/news-roundtable-cannabis-export-oakridge\/\">news roundtable<\/a>, discussing the Michael Cohen hearings, the new rent control law in Oregon, the death of Secretary Dennis Richardson and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee&#8217;s presidential campaign announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>OSU\u00a0Music Production Program\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=tjpZQS8OmIExF_shek6WdcJ3f8QC1ctI0oRfMv2tEpXX7cljJqDWCA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2faudient.com%2f2019%2f02%2f25%2foregon-state%2f\">recently featured in an article by Audient<\/a>, a United Kingdom based professional audio industry technology supplier. The\u00a0OSU\u00a0Snell Hall studio prominently features the Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition mixing console, and the article highlights both the music technology program at\u00a0OSU\u00a0and the student experience of using the \u00a0state-of-the-art equipment throughout their studies.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Bands\u00a0<strong>Chris Chapman<\/strong>\u00a0presented a session at the Northwest National Association for Music Education conference in Portland, Oregon on February 15 titled \u201cBeing Vulnerable to the Art.\u201d Chapman was also an invited guest conductor of the Kansas Intercollegiate Band in Wichita, Kansas from February 21-22.<\/p>\n<p>Recordings made by Coordinator of Music Technology\u00a0<strong>Jason Fick<\/strong>\u00a0of the Neave Trio and the American Chamber Players for Chamber Music Corvallis have been airing on the \u201cPlayed in Oregon\u201d program over the past few weeks. The series is broadcast by All Classical Portland (KQAC) and is rebroadcast by various stations throughout Oregon, Alaska, California and other repeater stations throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Voice\u00a0<strong>Amy Hansen<\/strong>\u00a0and Instructor of Guitar\u00a0<strong>Cameron O\u2019Connor<\/strong>\u00a0performed in recital at the Corvallis Guitar Society and on All Classical Portland\u2019s \u201cThursdays@Three\u201d program on March 7.
