An artist receptions will be held in the gallery from <strong>9-11 a.m.<\/strong> with coffee and pastries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reverance<\/strong> \u2014 As part of OSU150&#8217;s anniversary celebration, <strong>The Little Gallery<\/strong> proudly presents &#8220;Reverance,&#8221; an exhibition showing a selection of works from <strong>Ka&#8217;ila Farrell-Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Natalie Ball<\/strong> and <strong>Rick Bartow<\/strong>. Deeply influenced by their Northwest indigenous heritages and cultures, the exhibition presents work that explores the artists&#8217; native relationship to the land, as well as themes of activism and autobiography through painting, installation, textiles, and sculpture. The opening reception will take place in\u00a0<strong>210 Kidder Hall <\/strong>from<strong> 1:30-3 p.m.<\/strong> and run through Dec. 13.<\/p>\n<p><strong>School of Psychological Science Fall 2018 Colloquia<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Dr. Stephanie Cacioppo (University of Chicago) will give a talk on the neuroscience of meaningful arrangements. <strong>Memorial Union, La Raza 208., 4 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\">Tuesday, Oct. 9<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The School of Arts and Communication\u2019s Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series\u00a0\u2014<\/strong>\u00a0Presents \u201cPast Time: Troubled Visions of the Good Old Days\u201d by artist Paul Shambroom. <strong>7 p.m., LInC 128.<\/strong> The talk is preceded by a reception at <strong>6 p.m.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\">Wednesday, Oct. 10<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: black\"><b>The Rebirth of East-Germany Since 1990<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: black\">\u00a0<b><span class=\"s1\">\u2014<\/span><\/b>\u00a0The development of east-Germany since reunification in 1990 has been a unique experiment of social engineering at unprecedented financial cost. This multi-media presentation will outline the economic and environmental changes since 1990 as well as discuss developments in agriculture and villages, show how the architectural heritage has been restored and try to answer the question why right-wing populism is particularly strong in east-Germany. Application forms, instructions, and information about awards may be found online at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/humanities.oregonstate.edu\/fellowship-program\"><span class=\"s2\">https:\/\/humanities.oregonstate.edu\/fellowship-program<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>David Kerr<\/strong>, associate professor in the School of Psychological Science, co-authored a paper in the journal &#8220;Development and Psychopathology&#8221; entitled &#8220;Intergenerational associations in physical maltreatment: Examination of mediation by delinquency, substance use, and anger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Professor <strong>Bradley Boovy<\/strong> gave a guest lecture titled &#8220;Pictorial Prosthetics: Martial Masculinities and Veteran Amputees in Early Weimar Visual Culture: at Miami University, Ohio. He also presented a paper titled &#8220;Textual Topographies of Cruising: Literary and Visual Representations of Same-Sex Eroticism in 1950s West Germany&#8221; at the annual meeting of the German Studies Association in Pittsburgh, PA.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=_AxnooPuIKyq0p6BuGuO2yK8GWoGakawZTNhQ_LA-KDAe5kH9irWCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.pbs.org%2findependentlens%2fblog%2findependent-lens-wins-two-2018-news-documentary-emmys-tower-and-forever-pure%2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PBS historical documentary &#8220;Birth of a Movement&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0featuring a soundtrack recorded and edited at Boxwood Labs in Corvallis was nominated for a 2018 EMMY Award. The project featured composer Paul Miller (DJ Spooky) and used an ensemble directed by Coordinator of Contemporary Music and Research\u00a0<b>Dana Reason.<\/b>\u00a0Performers included OSU music faculty members<b>\u00a0Ryan Biesack<\/b>\u00a0(drums),\u00a0<b>Mike Gamble<\/b>\u00a0(guitar), and\u00a0<b>Dana Reason <\/b>(piano)\u00a0and OSU students\u00a0Jayanthi Joseph, Ryan Zubieta\u00a0and\u00a0Jon Thomson. Eugene-based saxophonist Sean Peterson was also a member of the ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator of Music Technology<b> Jason Fick&#8217;s<\/b> recently recorded interview with artist Joan Truckenbrod has been included as part of an exhibit titled <a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=UE2McH5qUJVBlwb1IacIWYBuTPXBjaHvG2ucgbN7gd_Ae5kH9irWCA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2fwhitney.org%2fexhibitions%2fprogrammed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Programmed: Rules, Codes, and Choreographies in Art, 1965-2018&#8221;<\/a> at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Voice<b> Amy Hansen<\/b> will be performing a solo recital titled <a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=TlH6hJogofJv7IWGU4STGlgm4a8xdYarZ0GHjx8zPEDAe5kH9irWCA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2fwww.pdx.edu%2fmusic%2fnoon-concert-series-fall-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Summer in the North: Nordic songs of love and longing&#8221;<\/a> at Lincoln Hall in Portland, Oregon. Hansen will be joined by pianist Chuck Dillard. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Art\u00a0<b>Katherine Spinella<\/b> has a solo exhibition \u201cAt the Horizon\u201d running Oct. 1 \u2013 26 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.littmanandwhite.com\/upcoming\/\">White Gallery<\/a> on the Portland State University campus. Spinella uses printmaking, sculpture, and photography as a means of archiving and deconstructing commonplace objects and materials in search of their embedded ideological meaning. In this exhibition, she transports the refuse of commerce into fractured, elevated, and philosophically personified artifacts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Instructor of Photography\u00a0<b>Evan Baden <\/b>will have work in an upcoming exhibition titled &#8220;Civilization: The Way We Live Now&#8221;.
