Each event promises to challenge common perceptions of music and sound in various ways. Some projects create new sounds by fusing familiar genres, while others blend sound with visual art. An estimated 555 were past and present students from the course.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/MIC9NXVn_BA\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/MIC9NXVn_BA<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h2>Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Juan Antonio Trujillo<\/strong> of the World Languages and Cultures program chaired a session on LGBTQI identities in virtual, mediated, and transnational spaces at the Latin American Studies Association conference in Barcelona where he presented a paper on queer Latinx online messaging around ethnic identity and desire called \u201cC\u00f3digos de identidad y deseo: El lenguaje multimodal de los perfiles latinxs en redes geosociales gays.\u201d He also led a roundtable discussion at PSU\u2019s Queering Social Justice symposium featuring his latest experimental short film, &#8220;Topograf\u00edas Er\u00f3ticas&#8221; which explores the physical and emotional geographies of queer relationships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anita Guerrini<\/strong>, Horning Professor in the Humanities in the School of History, Philosophy and Religion, led a workshop session on \u201cHistory and Restoration Ecology\u201d at the annual Marine Biological Laboratory\/Arizona State University History of Biology seminar on May 21.\u00a0 The theme for this year\u2019s week-long seminar, held at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, was \u201cEngineering Nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Associate Director of Bands <b>Olin Hannum<\/b> was an invited guest conductor of the San Francisco Bay-area based Awesome Orchestra Collective on their &#8220;Gustav Takeover&#8221; program, featuring Gustav Holst&#8217;s Suite No. 1 and Gustav Mahler&#8217;s First Symphony. Additionally, Hannum&#8217;s new work for wind band, &#8220;Rocky Mountain Sketches,&#8221; received its world premiere on May 31 in a performance by the <b>OSU Wind Ensemble<\/b> under the direction of OSU Director of Bands <b>Chris Chapman<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music Education <b>Wes Brewer<\/b> recently presented at the International Conference on Narrative Inquiry in Music Education in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference brought together scholars from the United States, Canada, Portugal, Norway, Italy and Abu Dhabi. His presentation focused on narratives of music teachers and students as portrayed in documentary film.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"s1\">Recurring Events<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: black\"><strong>Senior Thesis Art Show<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0Oregon State University students completing the Bachelor of Fine Arts this spring will present their thesis show in the <strong>Fairbanks Gallery of Art<\/strong> on the first floor of Fairbanks Hall, <strong>May 29-June 16<\/strong>.\u00a0Ten students graduating from various art disciplines will be exhibiting.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: black\">A reception will be held in the gallery on Wednesday, <strong>June 6<\/strong> at <strong>6 p.m.<\/strong>, when <strong>Ed Feser<\/strong>, Provost, will present the President\u2019s Award for Excellence in Art and the Provost\u2019s Purchase Award and<strong> Larry Rodgers<\/strong>, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will present the college of Liberal Arts Purchase Award. Seniors of Distinction Awards will also be presented to acknowledge outstanding graduating seniors in studio art, photography and art history.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Languages of Nature<\/strong> \u2014 <strong>The Little Gallery <\/strong>presents an exhibition by <strong>David Maddison<\/strong> and <strong>Ren\u00e9e Zangara.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>David Maddison is a Professor, the Endowed Chair of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. He teaches Biological Illustration, along with other courses in Systematic Entomology and Computational Methods in Genomic Analysis. Ren\u00e9e Zangara is an artist from Portland, and is an active member of the regional art community.
