Steering Toward Global Sustainability: The Moon Shot We Can Achieve\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Lecture by Dr. Kai Chan<\/strong>, University of British Columbia. This talk will touch upon the “green economy,” “sustainable intensification,” and “half Earth.” It will ask, is sustainability really possible? What must we give up? And how do we get there? Dr. Chan will focus on the role that everyday citizens can play by helping to build the social infrastructure for sustainability and present a fledgling effort, called CoSphere, for a Community of Small-Planet Heroes, ecologically regenerating economies. 4 p.m., MU, Pan-Afrikan, 213.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Desirable Conversations: An Ethnodrama Presentation<\/b><\/span>\u00a0\u2014 A<\/span>\u00a0series of interview-based theater work exploring the understanding of sexuality by young women with intellectual disabilities. This series of dialogues weaves in issues of sexuality with familial culture, society, relationships, and the identity of women who are seen through the lens of the label “intellectual disabilities.” It’s not a traditional play or documentary-theater project performed by actors. Instead, “<\/span>Desirable Conversations”<\/span>\u00a0is presented as an opportunity to plant a seed of knowing, understanding and acceptance.\u00a0<\/span>12 p.m., Milam 301<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

On May 22, Professor of Philosophy\u00a0Sharyn Clough<\/strong> delivered an invited plenary lecture, \u201cPhronesis: Weaving Science and Politics,\u201d at the UC Davis\u00a0<\/span>5<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span>\u00a0Annual Research Policy and Ethics Symposium<\/span>. On May 18, she gave a peer-reviewed presentation \u201cRorty, Science, and Peace Literacy,\u201d at the 8th annual conference at the\u00a0<\/span>Center for Values in Medicine, Science, and Technology<\/span>, University of Texas at Dallas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Associate Professor of Philosophy Allen Thompson<\/strong>\u00a0has been invited to\u00a0be give a talk entitled \u201cClimate Justice, the Courts, and Extreme Weather Event Attribution\u201d to\u00a0EmBARK<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a research group, led by Dr. Carl-Friedich Schleussner, focusing on the temporal evolution of barriers to adaptation and their relevance for climate related loss and damage \u2014\u00a0during a political philosophy research colloquium on June 19th at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n

Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Science David Kerr<\/strong> published the following paper with colleagues Andrew Koval<\/strong> and Assistant Professor Harold Bae<\/strong> in OSU CPHHS: “Oregon recreational marijuana legalization: Changes in undergraduates’ marijuana use rates from 2008-2016.” It will appear in the journal Psychology of Addictive Behaviors.<\/p>\n

There are now 800 final meal plates in The Last Supper<\/a> series by Professor of Art Julie Green<\/strong>. Green’s second solo exhibition at Upfor<\/a> in Portland will be on view June 7-28. The opening reception is Thursday, June 7 at 6 p.m. An artist conversation with Stephanie Snyder is at 1 p.m. on June 30. “Picnic Brownies Make Life Easy,” a 70-page facsimile of Green’s personal ledger cookbook, is at Upfor on June 30. The Oregon Arts Commission and Ford Family Foundation generously supported the publication. The groundwork has been laid for a new series, First Meal<\/a>. Law professor Robert Owen connected Green to the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University. The Center will help her gather first meal stories of exonerees.<\/p>\n

Instructor of Music Ryan Biesack<\/b> performed with his jazz trio (Ben Mutschler<\/strong>, saxophone; Steve Willis<\/strong>, bass) on March 17 at Cloud and Kelly’s in downtown Corvallis.<\/p>\n

Instructor of Guitar Cameron O’Connor <\/b>recently performed recitals at the Museum of Northern California in Chico, California and as a guest of the Sacramento Guitar Society, in Sacramento, Calif. He was profiled in the Chico Enterprise-Record<\/a> in advance of his concert in Chico.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Languages of Nature<\/strong> \u2014 The Little Gallery <\/strong>presents an exhibition by David Maddison<\/strong> and Ren\u00e9e Zangara.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>David Maddison is a Professor, the Endowed Chair of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. He teaches Biological Illustration, along with other courses in Systematic Entomology and Computational Methods in Genomic Analysis. Ren\u00e9e Zangara is an artist from Portland, and is an active member of the regional art community. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is in many collections in the Portland Art Museum and was featured in “Portal,” the Portland Art Museum Magazine, Spring 2017.\u00a0May 1 – June 14.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
