As a faculty member and chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies at Oregon State University she contributed to expanding the body of knowledge about the diversity of Latino communities in Oregon. After her retirement from academic, she founded the non-profit center, Casa Latinos Unidos de Benton County, where she served as Executive Director for six years.<\/p>\n Dr. Qwo-Li Driskill<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, was a guest of the Center for Women & Gender at Utah State University on January 22nd. They delivered a brown bag lecture and facilitated a Theatre of the Oppressed workshop and public performance.<\/p>\n School of Writing, Literature, and Film Assistant Professor Ehren Helmut Pflugfelder<\/strong> has published a chapter on embodiment and recall documentation entitled \u201cThe Role of Metis\u00a0<\/i>in Revising Automotive Recall Letters,\u201d in the collection “Posthuman Praxis in\u00a0Technical Communication,” edited by Kristen R. Moore and Daniel Richards (Routledge, 2018). Pflugfelder also recently published a rethinking of failure in large-scale projects,\u00a0\u201cFailure Matters: Conflicting Techne in a High-Tech Case,\u201d in the “Journal of Technical\u00a0Writing and Communication” 48, no. 1 (2018).<\/p>\n Instructor of Music Ryan Biesack<\/strong> performed as a drummer on a debut show with a new jazz tri0 including OSU’s Ben Mutschler on saxophone and Steve Willis on guitar. They performed jazz standards and new, original compositions.<\/p>\n Assistant Professor of Music Technology Jason Fick<\/b> recently served as the performance and composition adjudicator for the 2018 College Music Society Pacific Northwest Chapter Regional Conference, which will be held this April at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.<\/p>\n Instructor of Voice Nicola Nine<\/b> attended and adjudicated at the Portland Cascade NATS chapter classical festival. Additionally, two of Nine’s students placed in the competition: Robbie Goldie in the upper mens category and Madi Zuro in the lower colleges women’s category. Competition categories are determined by age. Voice instructors Nick Larson<\/b> and Megan Sand <\/b>also had student place in the competition. Students from the studios of Nine, Larson and Sand also participated in an Alexander Technique workshop at OSU’s Benton Hall, facilitated by Eugene-based Marieke Schuurs.<\/p>\n Director of Choral Studies Steven Zielke <\/b>guest conducted the Portland All-City Choir on January 30. The 80-member ensemble featured top singers from Portland Public Schools.<\/p>\n Instructor of Voice Amy Hansen<\/b> recently facilitated the NATS Classical Auditions, held at the University of Portland on January 27. Additionally, on the day of the competition, she \u00a0entered and prepared scores which determined the winners of the competition. Hansen also recently presented a concert at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library with pianist Bryson Skaar<\/b>. The performance was co-presented by the library and Corvallis-OSU Piano International<\/b>.<\/p>\n Instructor of Guitar Cameron O’Connor <\/b>was an invited guest artist of the Casa della Zisa concert series in Portland, where he performed a recital of classical and contemporary music.<\/p>\n Instructor of Music Sean Paul Mills<\/strong> recently adjudicated the Larry Garett Concerto Competition of the Salem Youth Symphony with Lance Inyoue of Lewis and Clark College, Mark Stanek and Brian Griffiths from Corban University and Dijana Ihas from Pacific University. Mills also performed two concerts with the Arioso Chamber Players in Corvallis and Albany.
