In addition to conducting that ensemble, Chapman worked with the IUP wind Ensemble and gave a masterclass for graduate conducting students. In December, Chapman also conducted the Portland Wind Symphony in their annual holiday concert at Marylhurst University near Portland, and lead the Oregon Brass Society in a performance on the Oregon coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Instructor of guitar\u00a0<b>Cameron O&#8217;Connor<\/b>\u00a0performed a recital in Portland as part of the\u00a0<b>OSU Mirabella Concert Series\u00a0<\/b>with a program\u00a0including his own original compositions, works by J.S. Bach, and Barrios. O&#8217;Connor then traveled to Los Angeles where he presented a duo-recital with pianist Hui Wu as part of the Brand Concert Series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Instructor of music\u00a0<b>Sean Paul Mills<\/b>\u00a0conducted the Salem Philharmonia in performances on December 2 and 3 at the Chemeketa Community College Auditorium. Closer to Corvallis, Mills lead the Willamette Valley Symphony in performances on December 9 and 10. Mills is the artistic director and founder of both ensembles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Art professor <strong>Julie Green<\/strong> recently published \u201cPhone Book,\u201d reproductions of\u00a0paintings of phones belonging to OSU students and faculty. Published by Upfor Gallery in Portland, &#8220;Phone Book&#8221; is available at the gallery and online at<a href=\"https:\/\/upforgallery.com\/publications\/julie-green-phone-book\">\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">https:\/\/upforgallery.com\/publications\/julie-green-phone-book.<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0Additionally, she recently\u00a0received the Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grant, with additional support from Ford Family Foundation, to \u00a0publish an artist\u2019s cookbook titled \u201cPicnic Brownies Make Life Easy.\u201d The book will be released in spring, 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Art faculty\u00a0<b>Stephen Hayes&#8217;\u00a0<\/b>work appears in\u00a0a four person show at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, January 3-27, 2018. \u201cPresence\/Absence\u201d\u00a0features black and white artworks by\u00a0Jason Vance\u00a0Dickason, John David\u00a0Forsgren, Stephen Hayes, and\u00a0Jackson Pollock\u00a0in styles ranging from abstraction to figuration.\u00a0The group exhibition focuses on the artists\u2019 use of minimal color palette to highlight distillations of gesture and form.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethleach.com\/\">\u00a0http:\/\/www.elizabethleach.com\/<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<h2>Recurring Events<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>The Little Gallery<\/strong> presents &#8220;Dreams of Cuba,&#8221; an exhibition of photography by<strong> Greg Bal<\/strong>. The artist is displaying photos that capture the culture and people of Cuba, which he took during a 2013 OSU study abroad program there. The exhibit also brings together work from <strong>Adam Schwartz<\/strong>, SLCS and six undergraduate students from the OSU in Cuba program. On view <strong>Jan. 8 &#8211; Feb. 28<\/strong>, with an opening reception <strong>January 18, 3:30-5 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <strong>School of Arts &amp; Communication<\/strong>, the <strong>Memorial Union<\/strong> and the <strong>Atelier Outotsu<\/strong> gallery present two print exhibitions from the Atelier Outotsu program of Huogo, Japan. Exhibition 1 runs through Feb. 23 in the Memorial Union Concourse Gallery. Exhibition 2 runs through Feb. 1 in Fairbanks Gallery on the first floor of Fairbanks Hall. All prints are available for purchase.
