Tickets and information can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/liberalarts.oregonstate.edu\/SACpresents\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>News<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>At the World Congress of Philosophy in Beijing next year, the Jicarilla Apache philosopher <strong>Viola F. Cordova<\/strong> will be honored as one of 52 women philosophers from the global history of philosophy.\u00a0 She will take her place on a calendar that features a woman philosopher for every week of 2019. The calendar is a project of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale des Soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de Philosophie, the highest non-governmental world organization for philosophy. Dr. Cordova was a visiting professor for three years in OSU\u2019s Department of Philosophy.\u00a0 Her original papers are collected in the library of the School of History, Philosophy and Religion here and published as\u00a0&#8220;How It Is: The Native American Philosophy of V. F. They also delivered the Seventh Annual Georgia Harkness Lecture for the Pacific School of Religion\u2019s Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion and Ministry on October 19.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Studio art instructor <strong>Michael Boonstra<\/strong> will lecture on his recent works and current projects at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Wednesday, Oct. 25 as part of their <a href=\"https:\/\/art.wisc.edu\/public-programs\/\">2017 Visiting Artist Colloquium.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Music <b>Ryan Biesack<\/b> performed on October 19 with the Paul Krueger Quintet at Christos in Salem, Oregon in a Hard Bop tribute featuring the music of Hank Mobley, Blue Mitchel, Lee Morgan, Miles Davis and others. In addition to Biesack on drums, the quintet features trumpeter Paul Krueger, saxophonist Idit Shner, pianist Torrey Newhart and Sean Peterson on bass.<\/p>\n<p>Digital art instructor <b>John Whitten<\/b> will speak about his solo exhibition, \u201cStochastic Resonance\u201d on Nov. 1 at Eastern Oregon University. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/news-press\/nightingale-gallery-opens-2017-18-season\/\">The show<\/a> is up on Eastern\u2019s campus through Nov. 3. Last week, Whitten was a visiting artist at the Oregon College of Art &amp; Craft. He will participate as a panelist for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.racc.org\/grants\/project-grants\/\">2018 Visual Art RACC Project Grants<\/a> in Novemb<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Music <b>Mitchell Hutchings<\/b> was recently featured in an <a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=5uvq8ULL0Tf5S4FXrKD04Z-8oS-tWnfe8RDDclaebbsFdPty-hfVCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fmodernsingermagazine.com%2f%3fq%3dfeatures-artists%2fmitchell-hutchings-baritone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article in Modern Singer Magazine\u00a0<\/a>as part of an ongoing series featuring prominent opera and musical theatre performers from North America and Europe.\u00a0In addition to the interview, Hutchings collaborated with Italian pianist Fabio Menchetti to create a short video of &#8220;Nulla Silenzio&#8221; from Giacomo Puccini&#8217;s &#8220;Il Tabarro&#8221; for the publication.<\/p>\n<p><b>Music at Oregon State University<\/b> held the inaugural OSU Music Education Professional Development Day on Friday, October 13. The event featured three renowned scholars and clinicians from prominent music programs around the country: Kevin Fenton from The Florida State University; Carlos Abril from the University of Miami Frost School of Music; and Craig Kirchhoff of the University of Minnesota.\u00a0The event was attended by OSU students, faculty and more than 60 public school music educators from school districts throughout Oregon.
