But what are its central concerns and methods today? No registration required. <strong>Monday, October 23, 4-5 p.m., Autzen House, 811 SW Jefferson<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>News<\/h2>\n<p><strong>PACE Course: The Conscience of Hollywood: The Rise of Social Protest Cinema<\/strong>\u00a0<b><strong><span class=\"s2\">\u2014\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><span class=\"s2\">Hollywood in the 30s, in all its uncanny and prescient wisdom, was quick to respond to the social injustices it perceived at the time with a stream of hard-hitting and uncompromising entertainments designed to ignite the passions and fuel the hopes of beleaguered movie-goers across the country. View and study some of these films in this course which runs from <strong>October 28 through December 16.<\/strong> You can register <a href=\"http:\/\/pace.oregonstate.edu\/catalog\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>World Languages and Cultures coordinator <strong>Tony Trujillo<\/strong> examined the online multilingual\/multimodal communication strategies of gay Latinx men in \u201cThe Languages of Identity and Desire: Latinx (Re)presentation on MSM Dating Apps\u201d at the third conference of the Association of Joter\u00eda Arts, Activism, and Scholarship (AJAAS) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. OSU accepted the organization\u2019s invitation to host the 2019 conference in collaboration with Portland State University, University of Oregon, and Portland non-profit Unite Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Music <strong>Nicola Nine<\/strong> accompanied the <strong>OSU Chamber Choir<\/strong> on Thursday, October 12 at a clinic lead by renowned choral music educator Kevin Fenton.<\/p>\n<p>Professor of Music <strong>Marlan Carlson<\/strong> and Instructor of Music <strong>Sean Mills<\/strong> were both invited guests on radio broadcasts with legendary classical music host Peter Van de Graff on KWAX FM 91.1 in Eugene, Oregon<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elizabeth Root<\/strong>, Speech Communication associate professor had her article, &#8220;Staging Scenes of Co-Cultural Communication: Acting Out Aspects of Marginalized and Dominant Identities\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/17404622.2017.1372617\">published<\/a> in the October special issue of Communication Teacher, which focuses on critical communication pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting Assistant Professor of Speech Communication\u00a0<strong>Shannon Cruz\u00a0<\/strong>presented \u201cThe Politics of Environmental Attitudes: Synthesis and New Directions\u201d on Friday, October 13 in STAG 110. Two studies were reviewed: the first synthesizing historical trends in environmental attitudes that have culminated in the current political divide, the second exploring options for attempting to overcome it.<\/p>\n<p>As part of\u00a0acquisition of his work at the Museum of Contemporary photography, art instructor <b>Evan Baden\u2019s<\/b> photographs were included in \u201cRe:collection,\u201d an exhibition of recent acquisitions at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mocp.org\/exhibitions\/2017\/07\/recollection.php\">exhibition<\/a> closed last week.\u00a0Baden also recently had three pieces from his first body of work purchased by the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Art faculty\u00a0<b>Evan Baden, Julia Bradshaw, Kerry Skarbakka, Lorenzo Triburgo,<\/b>\u00a0and <strong>Matt<\/strong><b> Williams<\/b>\u00a0have organized the Northwest regional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spenational.org\/conferences\/illuminate-provoke-spe-nw-2017\">conference<\/a> for the Society for Photographic Educators which will take place at Oregon State on October 20 and 21.<\/p>\n<p>Professor of Art <strong>Julie Green&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/exmail.oregonstate.edu\/owa\/CLAthisWeek@oregonstate.edu\/redir.aspx?C=rQQznY69yI11c1CuTg25Y_lisHDOxsOYPATVJUOENIq4_4G4ZxLVCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fglasstire.com%2f2017%2f09%2f29%2fjulie-green-at-texas-state-university%2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Last Supper in Glasstire<\/a>,\u201d was recently reviewed in the leading contemporary art journal in Texas. Green continues to be busy on sabbatical, and recently gave a talk in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor of Art <strong>Stephen Hayes<\/strong>\u00a0discussed his new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethleach.com\/Artist-Detail.cfm?ArtistsID=81\">exhibition<\/a> on display at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery on NPR\u2019s Think Out Loud on October 10. Nigon\u2019s studio practice is based in the dramatic visual language of the Catholic church.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fairbanks Gallery features <strong>\u201cSpectacle,\u201d<\/strong> photographs by <strong>Nicole Jean Hill<\/strong> and <strong>Alexis Pike<\/strong>, <strong>Oct. 2 \u2013 Oct. 21<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b>as part of the Society of Photographic Educators Northwest (SPE-NW) Conference being held on the OSU campus. The gallery is located on the first floor of Fairbanks Hall and is open 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m. M-F and until 8 p.m. on Oct. 19 for the Corvallis Arts Walk. Art&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julia Bradshaw\u00a0<\/strong>curated the exhibit.
