Demographic profiles of prisoners and workers in American private prisons<\/a>&#8221; in the\u00a0International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Dr. Trina Hogg<\/strong>, SHPR, recently gave a lecture entitled, \u201cA Pioneer of Civilization?: The Impact of the Construction of the Sierra Leone Railway on African Lives in\u00a0the Early 20th Century&#8221; at the University of Oregon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>David Kerr<\/strong>, Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Science and his co-authors from OSU College of Public Health &amp; Human Sciences and the University of Michigan had a paper accepted to the journal Addiction, entitled \u201cChanges in undergraduates\u2019 marijuana, heavy alcohol, and cigarette use following legalization of recreational marijuana use in Oregon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Evan Baden\u2019s <\/b>photograph \u201cThe Baptist\u201d has received an award from the juror and is part of The Arts Center\u2019s annual \u201cAround Oregon\u201d exhibition, juried by Teri Lund, owner of the Imogen Gallery in Astoria. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">T<\/span><span class=\"s1\">he exhibit runs through July 8. A brown bag art talk will be held <strong>June 8 at noon<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Shiao-ling Yu<\/strong> (World Languages &amp; Cultures) has a book chapter, \u201cJiao Juyin on Directing\u201d published in World Theatre Theories (London: Routledge, 2017).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Foundations art coordinator <strong>Anna Fidler\u2019s<\/strong> exhibition of new works on paper opens this Thursday in Portland at <a href=\"https:\/\/hartmanfineart.net\">Charles A. Hartman Fine Art<\/a>. The show runs from June 1-July 15, 2017. \u201cEttes<i> <\/i>and Esses\u201d tells the story of Victorian women activists as heroines during a war, and historical women whose actions pave the way for greater freedom. Additionally, Fidler will exhibit this summer at the <a href=\"http:\/\/sunvalleycenter.org\/visual-arts\/upcoming-exhibitions\/\">Sun Valley Center<\/a> in Ketchum, Idaho, and is currently <a href=\"http:\/\/pdxart.portofportland.online\/tag\/anna-fidler\/\">exhibiting<\/a> at the Portland International Airport. She is also participating &#8220;Log Cabin Medly&#8221; with Clay Lohmann this summer, the reception for which is August 31.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Director of bands<b> Chris Chapman<\/b> was an invited clinician and adjudicator on June 3 and 4 for the Music in the Parks Festival in Seattle, Washington, where he worked with bands and orchestras from the entire west coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Instructor of music and cellist\u00a0<b>Sean Paul Mills<\/b>, instructor of music and pianist\u00a0<b>Lauren Servias<\/b> and oboist Jaclyn LaRue performed two concerts on June 3 and 4 as the Arioso Chamber Players, in a program including Beethoven&#8217;s Piano Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 11; Glinka&#8217;s &#8220;Trio Pathetique&#8221;; Mozart&#8217;s Oboe Quartet in F Major; and the world premiere of Davis&#8217; &#8220;Serenade for English Horn, Cello and Piano,&#8221; which was written for the Arioso Chamber Players. Stephanie Barth (violin) and Paul Schmidt (viola) also joined the performances as guests of the ensemble.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">OSU Costume Designer and Instructor <b>DeMara Cabrera<\/b> was Guest Costume Designer at Western Oregon University May 31- June 3 for their production of &#8220;This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing&#8221; by Finegan Kruckemeyer, guest directed by Jen Rowe.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Recurring Events<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Oregon State University\u2019s <strong>Center for the Humanities<\/strong> is hosting an exhibition of work by Assistant Professor of <strong>Art Kerry Skarbakka<\/strong> titled \u201cBlackout,\u201d through<strong> June 8<\/strong>. This is Skarbakka\u2019s second solo exhibition in Corvallis in a year. The installation is comprised of objects of art and understanding, encapsulated in the medium used to line the beds of trucks, and thus blacked out, or rendered void.
