Michael Kazin Lecture \u2014 <\/b>Kazin, a history professor at Georgetown University, will lecture on the 100th anniversary of WWI. Kazin\u00a0 <\/span>is an expert in U.S. politics and social movements, 19th and 20th centuries. His book \u201cAmerican Dreamers: How the Left Changed a Nation\u201d, was named a Best Book of 2011 by The New Republic, Newsweek\/Daily Beast, and The Progressive. His most recent book, \u201cWar against War: The American Fight for Peace, 1914-1918.\u201d 2 p.m., MU: Journey Room 104.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Toppling the Melting Pot\u00a0<\/b>\u2013\u00a0An\u00a0American Conversations\u00a0lecture by\u00a0Jos\u00e9-Antonio Orosco<\/span><\/a>. In this talk based on his\u00a0new book published by Indiana University Press<\/span><\/a>, Orosco will discuss the Broadway origin of the \u201cmelting pot\u201d metaphor, present the alternative to its assimilationist ethics proposed by 20th-century American Pragmatist philosophers, and imagine along with them what role immigrants should play in building a culturally pluralistic democracy today.\u00a04 p.m.,<\/strong>\u00a0MU 208 \u2013 La Raza Room<\/b>.<\/p>\n

OSU Music<\/strong> and the Corvallis Repertory Singers<\/strong> join forces to give the west coast premiere of David Maslanka’s Mass<\/a> at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> in\u00a0The LaSells Stewart Center<\/strong>. Director of bands Chris Chapman leads the OSU Wind Ensemble, OSU Chamber Choir, Bella Voce, Corvallis Repertory Singers and soloists Amy Hansen and Nicolai Strommer in only the fifth complete performance of the work. David Maslanka, the composer, will be presents for the performance and will give a pre-concert talk at 6:50 p.m. in the Construction & Engineering Hall at The LaSells Stewart Center<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

EdFest<\/span><\/strong>, a biennial festival that brings in panels of editors, publishers, agents and writers to address a range of topics related to professional development for emerging writers, will be held Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21<\/strong> in Corvallis.\u00a0<\/span>This year\u2019s events explore the theme of literary citizenship. EdFest is hosted by the MFA Program in Creative Writing in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. Recurring Events<\/h2>\n

Oregon State University will host \u201cCultural Conversations<\/a>,\u201d an exhibition of prints from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Schnitzer Family Foundation, April 3 through May 3<\/strong>.\u00a0Schnitzer<\/a>, a Portland businessman, collector and philanthropist who owns one of the country\u2019s largest private collections of contemporary prints and multiples, will provide remarks about the exhibition\u2019s artists and artwork. OSU President Ed Ray also will give remarks. An informal, self-guided tour of the exhibition will follow. Pieces from the exhibit will be displayed in the Fairbanks Gallery as well as in four cultural centers on campus. The exhibition was curated by Kirsi Peltom\u00e4ki,<\/strong> associate professor of art history at OSU.<\/p>\n

The Little Gallery proudly presents Betty LaDuke\u2019s<\/strong> \u201c<\/span>Bountiful Harvest and Border Crossings,\u201d April 3 – June 16<\/strong>,<\/span> with an opening reception on April 27, <\/span>3:30 -5:00 p.m., Kidder 213<\/strong>.
