His academic specialization is North European Renaissance through the \u00a0Baroque period and writes about the<b> <\/b>history of art and visual culture. Temple-Cox is currently involved in a body of work which explores several themes concerned with identity and consciousness. <strong>4 p.m., SCARC (Library Special Collections Reading Room)<\/strong>.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Critical Questions Lecture Series<\/b> \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/liberalarts.oregonstate.edu\/wlf\/critical-questions-lecture-series\"><span class=\"s2\">Catherine Keyser <\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\">will lecture on, \u201cChanging Color in the Chocolate Factory: Roald Dahl and Race<\/span>\u201dat<strong> 4 p.m.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><strong>in MU 206<\/strong>. Keyser is an associate professor of English and a Peter and Bonnie McCausland Fellow at the University of South Carolina. Her current book project, &#8220;Artificial Color: Modern Food and Racial Fictions,&#8221; argues that modern U.S. literature uses the global-industrial food system and the new technologies that come along with it to explore and often challenge racial categorization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, April. 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>OSU Disability Network \u2014 <\/b>Join a group of OSU community members interested in discussing Disability Studies teaching and research, in general, and the development of a\u00a0DS curriculum at OSU, in particular. <strong>Stephanie Jenkins<\/strong> will present &#8220;&#8216;Suicide Pain\u2019:\u00a0Living\u00a0the &#8216;Unlivable Life,\u2019\u201d<strong> Noon &#8211; 1 p.m. Milam\u00a0Hall 301<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>SAC &amp; SPARK Presents: A Call to Life: Variations on a Theme of Extinction \u2014<\/b><\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\"> <span class=\"s3\">Kathleen Dean Moore<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Rachelle McCabe<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">bring their powerful weaving of music\u00a0(Sergei Rachmaninoff\u2019s Variations on a Theme of Corelli) and words back to OSU, followed by a panel of expert scientists speaking to the moral, ecological, scientific, artistic and so many other reasons it is urgent that we act now on behalf of the world&#8217;s amazing creatures. <strong>7<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><strong>\u00a0p.m., The LaSells Stewart Center<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Visiting Writers Series \u2014 <\/b>Acclaimed poet <strong>Ellen Bass<\/strong> will read from her most recent book of poetry,\u00a0\u201cLike a Beggar,\u201d which was published in April 2014 by Copper Canyon Press. Previous poetry books include\u00a0\u201cThe Human Line,\u201d named a Notable Book by the\u00a0San Francisco Chronicle, and\u00a0\u201cMules of Love,\u201d which won the Lambda Literary Award. She currently teaches in the low residency MFA program at Pacific University. <strong>7:30 p.m. Valley Library Rotunda<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Recurring Events<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Oregon State University will host \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/liberalarts.oregonstate.edu\/school-arts-and-communication\/art\/fairbanks-gallery-art\/upcoming-exhibition-cultural-conversations\">Cultural Conversations<\/a>,\u201d an exhibition of prints from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Schnitzer Family Foundation, <strong>April 3 through May 3<\/strong>. An opening reception will be held from <strong>4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 5 in Bexell Hall<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jordanschnitzer.org\/\">Schnitzer<\/a>, a Portland businessman, collector and philanthropist who owns one of the country\u2019s largest private collections of contemporary prints and multiples, will provide remarks about the exhibition\u2019s artists and artwork. OSU President Ed Ray also will give remarks. An informal, self-guided tour of the exhibition will follow. Pieces from the exhibit will be displayed in the Fairbanks Gallery as well as in four cultural centers on campus.
