The project considers how language functioned in Asher\u2019s material practice of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artinamericamagazine.com\/news-features\/magazine\/michael-asher\/\">reconfiguring museums, galleries, and other art world spaces<\/a>. <strong>4\u00a0p.m., Autzen House<\/strong>, 811 SW Jefferson Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Religious Studies as Critical Humanism \u2014 <\/b>Lecture by <strong>Richard Brian Miller<\/strong><i>. <\/i>Professor Miller will discuss why religious studies is important in the broader currents in the humanities. Topics to be discussed are the ethics of geoengineering, the ethics of ecosystem management, anthropocentrism and environmental ethics in the Anthropocene. <strong>2 p.m., MU Journey Room.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Friday,\u00a0March 17<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>OSU Anthropology Lecture Series<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 <strong>Dr. Charles Klein<\/strong>, assistant professor of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>anthropology at Portland State University, will give a lecture on &#8220;Real Talk: A Computer-delivered Sexual Health Promotion Intervention for Black Gay Men.&#8221; He will speak from <strong>12 to 12:50 p.m. in Waldo Hall Room 201A<\/strong>. This event is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/liberalarts.oregonsta\">Anthropology Program&#8217;s<\/a> &#8220;Tan Sack&#8221; Lecture Series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Concert by internationally acclaimed singer\/songwriter<b>\u00a0Libby Roderick<\/b>. The surprising power and depth of Roderick&#8217;s\u00a0music and the humor and spontaneity of her performances have attracted large and enthusiastic audiences across the continent and fans all over the world. Both events are a part of <a href=\"http:\/\/spark.oregonstate.edu\">SPARK: Arts+Science@OSU<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Fairbanks Gallery at Oregon State University\u2019s Corvallis campus will present \u201c<strong>Way Beyond the Rainbow<\/strong>,\u201d the 2016-2017 Plinkiewisch Scholarship Exhibition, from March 13 through March 31. A drop-in reception will be held from <strong>4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 16<\/strong>, during the Corvallis Arts Walk. \u201cWay Beyond the Rainbow\u201d exhibits the varied interests and skills of the 2016-2017 Plinkiewisch scholars, who are OSU students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>News<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">OSU faculty are invited to participate <\/span>the 7th\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Junior Scholars\u2019 Annual Forum of Latin America Studies<\/strong> to be held from Sept. 22-24, 2017, in Hefei, China. The theme of the forum this year is \u201cGlobalization, Anti-Globalization, and Alternative Globalization.\u201d This forum calls for papers from all fields in\u00a0humanities and social sciences that could contribute to the conference theme broadly interpreted. Paper abstracts are accepted in Chinese, English, Spanish or Portuguese. The conference will cover round-trip international air tickets and local accommodation during the conference days. Tabor Choral Festival at Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Assistant professor of music <b>Jason Fick<\/b> was recently selected to present a paper titled &#8220;Pop Rocks, Blips, and Beats: Guiding Students Through a Comprehensive History of Electronic Music&#8221; at the College Music Society Pacific Northwest Conference which will be held in April at Capitano University in Vancouver, British Columbia. Fick also had a recent work titled &#8220;Kerosene&#8221; for horn and electronics selected as a finalist for the ElectroBrass Conference in early April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Professor of music and director of choral studies <b>Steven M. Zielke <\/b>presented a session titled &#8220;Bringing Song Into Community: Getting American Singing Again&#8221; on March 8 at the national conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
