How to submit an item for inclusion
Items may be submitted to clathisweek@oregonstate.edu, or to Communications Director Celene Carillo. Items, which can be events, news, information about awards or honors, an upcoming publication, or information about current research, must be connected to a CLA program, department or organization. Most community events, even if they involve a CLA faculty member or student, will not be included unless the event is sponsored in part by a a CLA or Oregon State affiliated group. CLA this Week is assembled weekly and does not draw automatically from any CLA calendar or other source. Items must be submitted via email for inclusion. Do NOT send them via PDF. Text only. Additionally, CLA this Week is a text-only publication. Photos or .pdf images will not be included; however, feel free to include a link to an image, website or .pdf in your submission.
Submissions for the following week’s issue must be sent no later than Friday, 12 p.m., the week prior to your item appearing. Late submissions will not be considered. Feel free to submit items early, to be scheduled for future issues.

Events
Events may be announced twice in this section: once the week they take place, and once at a prior date. Submissions to this section must be under 75 words and must include time, date, location and admission price, if any. Submissions must include a short, bolded headline. Hyperlinks may be included. Events must have a direct CLA connection and be open to the entire CLA community.
Due to space constraints, items may appear once in the “Upcoming Events” section, and once in the “This Week” section. Please specify which weeks you want your event to appear. Events for “This Week” must be submitted by Friday, 12 p.m. the week before they occur.
Sample event:
Literary Northwest Series: Natalie Serber, author of the story collection “Shout Her Lovely Name” (A New York Times “Notable Book” of 2012), and Jay Pontieri, director of the undergraduate creative writing program at Marylhurst University and author of the memoir “Wedlocked,” will read in the Valley Library Rotunda on Jan. 17, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
News
Submissions for this section can be major headlines in the news media, as well as announcements (like new courses) relevant to faculty and staff. Items must be under 75 words and must include information on the targeted audience (students, staff, faculty), appropriate links, deadline dates and contact information. Submissions must include a short bolded headline. Hyperlinks may be included.
Sample submission:
Eco-art sought for transformation symposium: Regional artists are invited to submit proposals for interactive art projects that re-imagine how to live well on an altered planet. Projects should explore who we are in relation to the world and how we can live without exhausting the Earth. The selected art work will receive a $2,000 award. Awards and Honors
Submissions to this section must be under 75 words and must include the faculty or staff member’s name, position title and unit.
Sample award or honor:
Congratulations to economics professor Rolf Färe, who was given the W.W. Cooper Lifetime Contribution to Data Envelopment Analysis Award, with an accompanying special session on his work at the 2013 Asia-Pacific Productivity Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity
This section was created to highlight both upcoming faculty publications, as well as research that is in progress—not only to keep faculty throughout CLA updated, but also to create the possibility of collaboration among colleagues in different schools and units. Submissions to this section must be under 75 words and include the faculty or staff member’s name, position title and unit.
