Stone Award Lecture with Colson Whitehead — The Stone Award for Literary Achievement honors a major American author who has created a body of critically acclaimed literary work and has been—in the tradition of creative writing at OSU—a dedicated mentor to succeeding generations of young writers. 2019’s recipient is Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead, author of “The Underground Railroad.” Monday, April 1, 7:30 p.m., The LaSells Stewart Center. Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Associate Professor of Language, Culture and Society Adam Schwartz was an invited guest speaker at “Language Matters: Symposium in Honor of Dr. Julie Tetel Andresen,” held this month at Duke University. His talk, “Engaging student multilingualism with Languages In the World: Reflections on three years of language loops, autoethnographies and invitations to act,” offered a retrospective of student work from 2016-2018 in WLC 301: Introduction to World Language and Culture Studies.

Associate Professor of History Marisa Chappell recently published an article titled “The Strange Career of Urban Homesteading: Low-Income Homeownership and the Transformation of American Housing Policy in the Late Twentieth Century” in the “Journal of Urban History,” February 2019.

Instructor of music Michael Gamble performed a duo-set with renowned Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter Laura Veirs on March 8 at Polaris Hall in Portland, Oregon. 

Assistant professor of choral music education Sandra Babb conducted the North Dakota All State treble choir from March 21-23. 

Assistant professor of music technology Jason Fick was invited to perform his recent composition “I’m the Expert” at the MoxSonic Festival of Experimental Music and Art at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. His participation at the event was supported by a career opportunity grant from the Oregon Arts Commission.
