[Re]Framing Race Screening — The School of Language, Culture and Society will host the premiere of a collection of original short films by faculty and students which all explore discourses of race and are the final project for [Re]Framing Race Through Film Production (ES/QS/WGSS/WLC 361), a new interdisciplinary course thought by SLCS faculty Patti Sakurai and Tony Trujillo. The screening runs from 6-8 p.m. at Darkside Cinema and admission is free.

Charlotte Headrick, Professor Emerita of Theatre Aarts, directed A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia” for Flying Anvil Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee.
School of Writing, Literature and Film assistant professor Ehren Helmut Pflugfelder recently published an article entitled, “Autonomous Vehicles and Gender” in “Transfers, an Interdisciplinary Journal of Mobility Studies 8, no.1.”
A live performance by Cameron O’Connor, Instructor of Guitar, along with Pacific Lutheran University’s Erik Steighner, was featured by Seattle’s classical music radio station, KINGFM. The video can be seen here.
Daniel López-Cevallos, Assistant Professor of Latina/o Studies and Ethnic Studies, provided written testimony regarding Senate Bill 1563 to the House Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development, Oregon State Legislature. SB 1563 (which was signed by both House Speaker and Senate President on March 6 and is pending Governor Brown’s signature) removes requirement that students who are not citizens or lawful permanent residents apply for official federal identification document to be eligible for exemption from paying nonresident tuition at public universities. Also, it allows public universities, OHSU, and community colleges, to provide scholarships and other financial aid to students who are not citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Coordinator of contemporary music and research Dana Reason recently gave an invited presentation titled, “Private Traces and Strategies in Post-Genre Composition Practices” at the Braun Music Center at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Director of choral studies Steven Zielke directed the OSU Chamber Choir in an invited performance at the Northwest Region American Choral Directors Association conference on March 7 in Portland, Oregon. Instructor of music Russ Christensen lead the OSU Meistersingers in an invited performance at the same conference on March 8. The ACDA is the main professional association for choral music education and performance in America.

Associate Professor of Art and New Media Communications Julia Bradshaw, exhibits new work, “Lockers,” at CEI Artworks Gallery, 408 SW Monroe, Corvallis, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. until April 16, 2018. from March 15 to April 16, 2018, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. Lockers is a collection of photographs, video-works, and installation intended to raise conversations about the school experience between people of all backgrounds and age-ranges.
The Little Gallery presents #NosDuelen56. On March 8, 2017, 41 girls died and 15 severely burned in a safe home outside Guatemala City, when government authorities unjustly held them and then ignored their pleas once a fire began in their locked room. This exhibition brings together commemorative portraits, selected from more than 60 artists from around the world, who joined #NosDuelen56 to honor and commemorate the victims of the Hogar Seguro Virgen de la Asunción massacre. The exhibition runs from March 7 – April 25.
