Visiting Artist Reception and Lecture — Born and raised in Fresno, California, Matthew Hopson-Walker grew up reading comic books and dystopian science fiction novels, the themes of which frequently show up in his work now. Hopson-Walker teaches printmaking and drawing at College of the Sequoias and CSU-Fresno. He has been included in more than 100 juried and group exhibitions since 2006. Reception: 6 p.m., The LaSells Stewart Center, followed by a lecture at 7 p.m.

Anthropology Tan Sack Series — Univ. of Oregon Psychology Prof. Jennifer Freyd, a world expert on betrayal and abuse, editor of the Journal of Trauma & Dissociation, co-author of Blind to Betrayal (2013), author of the UO Sexual Violence Survey (2014), will lecture on the betrayal trauma experienced by sexually assaulted students treated poorly by their universities. The talk, “Research on Institutional Betrayal: The Case of Campus Sexual Assault” will be in 201 Waldo Hall at noon.

Music à la Carte — OSU Faculty Recital:  David Servias & Friends. Featuring Nathan Boal, saxophone; David Servias, piano; Ryan Biesack, percussion, and others . Noon, Memorial Union Lounge.

Emeritus professor of English Tracy Daugherty and School of Writing, Literature and Film instructor Wayne Harrison will read from their works at 7:30 p.m. in the Valley Library rotunda. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Elizabeth Kolbert: The Sixth Extinction — Elizabeth Kolbert, Heinz Award-winning staff writer for the New Yorker and author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change, will discuss her best-selling new book, The Sixth Extinction, Monday, February 2, 7 p.m., LaSells Stewart Center, Austin Auditorium. Presented by the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word.

You are invited to a reception for Boundaries of Thoughts, an exhibition of  paintings and sculptures by Iranian artist, Sahar Fattahi. The reception will be held in The Little Gallery, 210 Kidder Hall, Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 3:30-5:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

Associate Professor of English (SWLF) Tara Williams has published an article on two marginal dragons in the Ellesmere manuscript of Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales: “The Ellesmere Dragons” in Word & Image 30.4 (2014).

Assistant professor of psychology Kathleen Bogart recently published the following: Bogart, K. R. (2015). Disability identity predicts lower depression and anxiety in Multiple Sclerosis. Rehabilitation Psychology.

Film studies professor Jon Lewis’ new book, “The American Film History Reader,” was recently published by Routledge. His new book was also covered in the publication Film Quarterly.
