“Feminist Formations” Journal Special Issue Launch — Roundtable discussion features two recently published issues, “Feminist Teaching for Social Justice” and “Critical Feminist Exits” with journal editor, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Professor Patti Duncan, special issue guest editor, Ethnic Studies Professor Marta Maldonado, and article authors, plus a student-led collaborative art session. 3:30-5:30 p.m., Centro Cultural César Chávez.

School of Psychological Science Spring Colloquium Series — Jessica Cavalli will give a talk entitled, “Chronic marijuana use and inhibitory control in young adult college students” at 4 p.m. in Reed 219. 

Rumor in the Archive: Denunciations, the BDM Girl, and Gestapo Case Files — In this talk, Associate Professor of Modern European History Kara Ritzheimer will discuss the ways rumor and gossip became political tools during the Third Reich, how Nazi jurists used the law to muzzle criticism, why the BDM girl became a topic of derision, and how historians should approach the rumors they encounter in the archives. 4 p.m., OSU Center for the Humanities, Autzen House, 811 SW Jefferson Avenue.

OSU Album Club — Album Club will listen to and discuss Robert Johnson’s “King of the Delta Blues Singers” at 7 p.m. in Bexell Hall Room 211. Album Club, hosted by Director of Popular Music and Performing Arts Bob Santelli, is like a book club where you discuss the greatest albums ever recorded. Free and open to all.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Associate Professor of English Rebecca Olson published the article “The Continuing Adventures of Blanchardyn and Eglantine: Responsible Speculation about Early Modern Fan Fiction,” in “PMLA.”

Assistant Professor of Philosophy Stephanie Jenkins was featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud where she discussed this past weekend’s Phish Conference. Oregon State University hosted the first-ever academic conference on the band and Jenkins coordinated the conference.

Professor of Art Shelley Jordon’s animation “Anita’s Journey” will be included in the 6th International Holocaust Conference in Riga, Latvia, May 21-22 as part of the Shoah Film Collection “Darkness into Light Memorial.” Jordon’s recent animation “Water Stories” is included in the 9^th Under the Subway Video Art Night to be screened at: at the JCC, Harlem, NYC; the Open Air Movie Cinema, Dusseldorf, Germany; El Más Acá Club Cultural Association, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Atelier Sanitário. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Convent Carmen, Valencia, Spain; Genalguacil Pueblo Museo, Málaga, Spain; and the ArtSpace Mexico City.

“Hyperallergic,” an international art journal, included a short essay and image of Professor of Art Julie Green in the series “A View From the Easel” on March 22.

Instructor of Music Amy Hansen performed on a concert at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio honoring her former voice teacher Daune Mahy, who is retiring after 39 years of teaching voice and diction at the conservatory.

Associate Professor of Music Jason Fick recently served as a paper adjudicator for the International Community of Auditory Displace conference in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom. ICAD is the largest and most respected international community for sonification.

Instructor of Music Ryan Biesack performed on May 11 at the Laurelhurst in Eugene with the Mike Denny Quintet, featuring saxophonist Steve Owen and bass player Tyler Abbott.

Recurring Events

The Oregon State International Film Festival returns this spring as a pop-up festival. On four Saturdays in a row in May and June, we will bring you short and feature-length films from around the world. All films will be screened at the Darkside Cinema in downtown Corvallis, presented by the School of Language, Culture and Society and the School of Writing, Literature and Film.
