CFP—Center for the Humanities 2018-2019 Fellowships — The Center for the Humanities is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 Resident Research Fellowship Program. The deadline to submit proposals is Thursday, December 7. Application forms, instructions, and information about awards may be found online at http://oregonstate.edu/dept/humanities/fellowship-program. 

CFP—Humanities Research Clusters: The Center for the Humanities invites proposals for WI/SP 2018 Humanities Research Clusters. Supported through a partnership with the OSU Office of the Provost, this program offers scholars with expertise in different disciplines the opportunity to explore a topic of shared interest in common and in depth. Submission deadline: Thursday, December 7. Program information and submission instructions here.

Honors and Awards

Michelle Inderbitzin, Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy, won the 2017 American Society of Criminology Teaching Award. The award is a lifetime-achievement award for contributions in teaching criminology. Dr. Inderbitzin was nominated for the award by peers from across the country.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Instructor of Guitar Cameron O’Connor was profiled in OSU’s student-written media journal, The Corvallis Review.

Sarah Dermody of the School of Psychological Science was the lead author a FDA-funded study published in “Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology” with colleagues at Brown, Johns Hopkins, UCSF, University of Minnesota, Duke, and University of Pittsburgh entitled, “Effects of reduced nicotine content cigarettes on individual withdrawal symptoms over time and during abstinence.”

Dr. Stephanie Jenkins, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, was featured in an interview with Engaged Philosophy about her use of interview assignments in philosophy classes and her Ecampus Research Fellowship project.

Dr. Stacey Smith, Associate Professor of History appeared alongside OSU VP Steve Clark on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud program on (11/29) to discuss the historical research into OSU building names and President Ray’s naming decisions.

Dr. Rena Lauer & Dr. Kevin Osterloh, both Assistant Professors of History and Religious Studies were feature in an article in the Oregon Jewish Life magazine about their participation as headliners in the 12th Annual Weekend in Quest coming up March 2-4, 2018, in Astoria, OR.

Rorie Solberg, Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy, co-wrote an article for the Washington Post titled, “Trump’s judicial nominations would put a lot of white men on federal courts.”

Coordinator of contemporary music and research Dana Reason premiered three new works for audio and piano on Wednesday, November 29 at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas: “200 Rounds,” “10 Easy Steps,” and “even if one was one.” Reason also collaborated with Bruce Pennycook, director of the Center for Arts and Entertainment Technologies at the University of Texas – Austin on a new interactive technology worked called “Interiorities.”

Hiking the Cascades: Photos from the Pacific Crest Trail, work by Eugene-based photographer Ed Pabor, will be on view in the Center for the Humanities until Dec. 8 (M – F, 10 – 4).
