Distinguished Professor of Philosophy Emerita Kathleen Dean Moore will read from her novel “Piano Tide” at the Corvallis Public Library at  7 p.m.  Environmental activist Bill McKibben called Piano Tide “a savagely funny and deeply insightful novel of the tidepool and rainforest country she knows so well.”

OSU Disability Network — Join a group of OSU community members interested in discussing Disability Studies teaching and research, in general, and the development of a DS curriculum at OSU, in particular. Karen Thompson will present “Examining Special Education Disproportionality for English Learners.” Noon, Milam Hall 301.

Recurring Events

The Fairbanks Gallery at Oregon State University will host “Montage,” an exhibition of art and poetry by OSU students, Dec. 9 through Jan. 23. An artist’s talk and public reception will take place in the gallery at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19. The event is free and open to the public. It is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. the third Thursday of each month for the Corvallis Arts Walk.

The Little Gallery Presents: Leni Weiner’s Park Bench Stories — Leni Wiener is an internationally renowned fabric artist, having displayed her work in the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia. The work is described as “representational fabric collage.”  Photos taken of people sitting on park benches all over the world became the basis for this exhibition. The Little Gallery, 210 Kidder Hall, November 7-December 16, 2016.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Dan Faltesek, assistant professor in New Media Communications’ article “Obama’s Sixth Annual Address: Image, Affordance, Flow” is in preview mode and will soon be published. Josh Reeves, Assistant Professor of New Media Communications and Speech Communication, published an article on recently deceased cultural studies icon Stuart Hall in the latest issue of Critical Studies in Media Communication. Chris Ingraham and Joshua Reeves, “New Media, New Panics,” Critical Studies in Media Communication 33.5 (2016): 455–467.

Kenny Maes (Anthropology, SLCS) published a new book entitled “The Lives of Community Health Workers: Local Labor and Global Health in Urban Ethiopia.” https://www.routledge.com/products/9781611323610.

Assistant Professor and M.A. Director in the School of Writing, Literature and Film Ray Malewitz recently published an article entitled “Primo Levi’s The Periodic Table: Chemistry as Posthumanist Science” in Configurations 24.4 (Fall 2016): 417-440. 

Nana Osei-Kofi (Associate Professor, Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies/Director, DPD Program) presented a paper titled Autobiography as Counter-Discourse: Afroswedish Voices, at Sweden’s national gender studies conference, G16, in Linköping, Sweden, November 23-25. During her time in Sweden, Osei-Kofi also gave a presentation on OSU’s WGSS degree programs, at the University of Gothenburg.
