University Chorale is a conducting lab for graduate students in choral conducting and, and invites singers to participate. This is a fun, friendly, non-auditioned choir for campus and community singers of all levels. Beginners welcome. At the end of the term, there will be an informal concert. UC meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. in Benton Hall 204. For more information, contact Dr. Steven Zielke, director of choral studies at szielke@oregonstate.edu.

School of Psychological Science Fall 2015 Colloquium Series — Assistant Professor of Psychology Kathy Becker-Blease will give a talk titled, “Does Adaptive Quizzing Work? The Devil is in the Details,” from 12-1 p.m. in Reed 111.

Music à la Carte is back at noon, with the OSU Steel Band performing outside on the new Student Experience Center Plaza.

Oct. 7 — OSU Art Faculty Exhibit Closing Reception: The Oregon State University Art Faculty Exhibit invites the public to a closing reception at 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 in Fairbanks Gallery on the Oregon State University campus. This exhibit demonstrates a broad diversity of styles and approaches to the making of art, with faculty members working in the areas of photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking and video.

The Spring Creek Project received a $95,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation to oversee the creation and tour of “Forest Symphony,” a genre-bending wind symphony composed by Paul Miller, who first rose to worldwide fame as hip-hop turntablist “DJ Spooky.” Miller will compose music for a wind symphony during two artist-in-residencies at the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest in the Cascade Range. The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Christopher Chapman, will debut the Forest Symphony in May 2016.

Associate Professor of World Languages and Cultures Sebastian Heiduschke was elected to serve on the New Media Consortium Horizon Editorial Board for the Foreign Language EdTech Project commissioned by the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Theater instructor Elizabeth Helman has just returned Missouri, where she directed the St. Louis Actors’ Studio production of “Seminar,” by Theresa Rebeck. The play opened September 18 and runs through October 4. This is Helman’s third time directing with STLAS.

Charles Robinson will be traveling this week to the Engagement Scholarship Conference at Penn State, where he will present a paper on the role of makerspaces in higher education, “The Maker Campus: Space, Hands-on Learning, and Engagement” and offer a presentation on CLA’s involvement in theExtension Reconsidered initiative, “Extension Reconsidered: Building New Partnerships in Oregon.”

The work of art instructors Michael Boonstra and Andy Myers will be shown in the exhibit Between Places, which runs from October 1-31 at SOIL Gallery, 112 3rd Ave. S, Seattle, WA. http://soilart.org/exhibitions/between-places/.
