Awards and Honors
Associate Professor of World Languages and Cultures Sebastian Heiduschke recently won the 2015 German Embassy Teacher of Excellence Award. This award is given annually in recognition of outstanding up-and-coming teachers who may have started a new program or revitalized an existing one, and contribute to their AATG chapter. Heiduschke will be honored during the Awards Presentation at the AATG Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo on November 21, 2015 in San Diego.

Assistant Professor of New Media Communications Dan Faltesek was featured in the recent article, “Data Visualizations: 11 Ways to Bring Analytics to Life,” in the online magazine Information Week.
Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity
SHPR Instructor Thomas Bahde’s latest article, “I Would Not Have a White Upon the Premises”: The Ohio Valley Salt Industry and Slave Hiring in Illinois, 1780-182″ was just published in the summer issue of the peer-reviewed journal Ohio Valley History. Additionally, Bahde’s most recent book, “The Life and Death of Gus Reed: A Story of Race and Justice in Illinois during the Civil War and Reconstruction,” was also awarded a 2015 Certificate of Excellence from the Illinois State Historical Society.
Art professor Julie Green’s first solo show will open Oct. 13 at the Upfor Gallery in Portland. The work, influenced by Zen calligraphy, Japanese ceramics and the Pattern and Decoration movement, is a meditation on the ocean, consumption, the color blue and airbrushed imagery. Upfor Gallery is located at 929 NW Flanders Street, and the exhibit runs until Nov. 25. Green will also leave soon for a month-long artist residency at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans.
