Wednesday, August 5 — Assistant Professor of History Christopher Nichols will be at the Oregon Historical Society from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. to speak on WWII and lead an exploration of the exhibit World War II: A World at War, a State Transformed, which includes artifacts and manuscripts from the premier Mark Family Collection. Assistant Professor of History Christopher Nichols was recently elected to lifetime membership on the prestigious Council of Foreign Relations. Nichols also appeared on a recent episode of OPB’s show “Think Out Loud.” During the program, Nichols spoke about the Iran nuclear accord, Greek austerity, former Oregon governor John Kitzhaber, and a recent “New Yorker” article on a potential catastrophic earthquake in the Pacific Northwest.

History and Its Uses in the NSF Long-Term Ecological Research Network. Horning Professor Anita Guerrini has organized a session at the upcoming meeting of the Ecological Society of America in Baltimore (August 9-14) highlighting the diversity of possible historical approaches to ecological research and the challenges and rewards offered by different kinds of historical data. Guerrini, as well as OSU researcher Samuel Schmieding, will also be presenting during the session. Visit the ECO session page for more details.
