First Annual OSU Video Art Festival — Darkside Cinema in Corvallis, 4 p.m. The screening will take about an hour and will feature videos by students in the Video Art class led by Assistant Professor Julia Bradshaw of Art and New Media Communications. Admission is free and open to the public. Participating students: Eddie Campos, Pedro Gonzalez, Tyler Hasenoehrl, Dominic Hassett,Ching-Chia Ko, Jenny Lin, Christopher Pauly, Halie Sutton, Zoe Templeton, Kaylee Weyrauch, Renee Zipp.

June 1-14 — OSU Graduating Art Seniors Exhibit and Reception in Fairbanks Gallery. See the artwork of nineteen of OSU’s most creative art students in their final exhibition.  A reception will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Fairbanks Gallery. During the reception, the President’s Award for Excellence in Art will be announced; Provost Sabah Randhawa will present the Provost’s Purchase Award; and Larry Rodgers, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will present the CLA Dean’s Purchase Award. Senior of Distinction awards will also be presented to outstanding seniors.

Friday, June 5

Anthropology Tan Sack Series — Portland State University Assoc. Professor of English Jennifer Ruth, co-author of “Humanities, Higher Education, and Academic Freedom: Three Necessary Arguments” (2015) will give a lecture focusing particularly on the dysfunctional governance plaguing campuses with the erosion of the tenure system and the increase in contingent appointments. The talk, “The Faculty Mix and its Discontents,” will be in 201 Waldo Hall at noon.

Saturday, June 6

OSU Chamber Choir: The President’s Concert — In this final concert of the year, OSU’s premier choral ensemble, directed by Steven Zielke, performs music of the elements. 7:30 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 1165 NW Monroe, Corvallis. $10 in advance, $12 at the door. OSU’s maker celebration, The Co, was a great success last week. Over 1,000 visitors joined us on campus for a day of hands-on exhibits, live music from numerous CLA’s Music students and faculty, a lightning talk, and more. Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Sebastian Heiduschke, Associate Professor in the School of Language, Culture, and Society, was invited to deliver four lectures about theory and practice of online language teaching and learning to faculty and administrators at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Assistant Professor Julia Bradshaw of Art and New Media Communications has work on view at the Around Oregon exhibition at the Corvallis Art Center until July 11, 2015. The exhibition was juried by Johanna G. Seasonwein, Senior Curator for Western Art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene, Oregon. Her work is also on view at the Umpqua Valley Arts Association as part of the group exhibition Artworks Northwest until June 28, 2015. In August, she will be at the artist residency La Playa near Summer Lake in Oregon.

Art professor Shelley Jordon will be giving a talk about her artwork entitled, Still Liifes/Animated Paintings,”  in conjunction with her current exhibition “Ordinary Matters” Tuesday, June 2 at the Oregon Jewish Museum, in Portland. The Exhibition continues through June 21.

Art instructor Michael Boonstra has been selected to represent Oregon and OSU at the National Maker Faire in Washington DC June 12-13.
