Fairbanks Gallery, Closing Reception, OSU Art Faculty Exhibit — The Oregon State University Art Faculty Exhibit invites the public to a closing reception at 4:30 p.m. — 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8 in Fairbanks Gallery on the Oregon State University campus. This exhibit demonstrates a broad diversity of styles and approaches to the making of art, with faculty members working in the areas of photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, installation and video.

Ethical Decision Making: On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Professor of religious studies Courtney Campbell, Corvallis Mayor Julie Manning, Oregon State student Courtney Jackson, and several community business leaders will provide a course entitled ‘Ethical Decision Making in the Workplace and Society’ for students at Corvallis and Crescent Valley High Schools. This annual outreach and engagement program is co-sponsored by Samaritan Health, Corvallis Rotary Club, and the Hundere Endowment for Religion and Culture.

OSU ensembles will be featured on an upcoming program of “Played in Oregon.” Host Brandi Parisi is featuring several pieces from The President’s Concert in June, which was directed by Patricia Valian Reser Professor of Music Steven Zielke, and the fourth movement of the Mahler 6th Symphony, performed by the Corvallis-OSU Symphony under the baton of music professor Marlan Carlson. The show will air on Sunday, Sept. 28th at 1 p.m. on All Classical in Portland (KOAC 89.9 FM). You can live stream the program at www.allclassical.org. Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Associate professor of philosopy Joseph Orosco was the inaugural speaker on September 16 for the Latin Heritage Celebration at Worcester State University in Worcester, Massachusettes.  His talk was entitled: “Lessons from La Causa:  Cesar Chavez and Social Justice”.

Horning Endowed Professor Anita Guerrini recently presented the inaugural lecture in the Max Plank Institute for the History of Science Colloquium Series on Materialities. Her talk was entitled “The Skeleton as Object and Artifact in Early Modern Europe.”

Hua-yu Li of Political Science recently presented a paper entitled “Chinese Students and Political Purges in Moscow during Stalin’s Cultural Revolution: Stories from the Russian Archives” at an international conference on Modern China in Global Context sponsored and hosted by Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. The paper examines the Stalinist influence on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Assistant professor of music education Jason Silveira was recently published in the Journal of Research in Music Education for his article investigating teacher pacing and teacher effectiveness in the music classroom: Silveira, J. M. (2014). The perception of pacing in a music appreciation class and its relationship to teacher effectiveness and teacher intensity. Director of performance and technology Shawn Trail was recently accepted to Music Hack Day 2014 in San Francisco, which took place on September 20. Audio Hack SF is a one-day, invite-only hackathon bringing together 100 high-level musicians, music software devs, and music product designers from around the world to spend a day creating apps, plugins, software, and more together.
