Brett Burkhardt, assistant professor of sociology, published a new article, “Where Have All the (White and Hispanic) Inmates Gone? Comparing the Racial Composition of Private and Public Adult Correctional Facilities,” in the journal Race and Justice. Based on analysis of all American adult corrections facilities in 2005, the article finds that Hispanic inmates are overrepresented (and White inmates underrepresented) in privately operated prisons. Burkhardt’s research was recently covered on NPR’s “Codeswitch.”
Assistant professor of art and new media communications Julia Bradshaw has her photographic work on view at several locations this summer. Currently, she is part of a group exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography, her work was included in the exhibition “Geografica” at Fototropia in Guatemala, and in September her work will be included in an exhibition at Corridor 2122 in Fresno.
Professor of art Julie Green’s new work is included in a 4-person show at Laura Russo Gallery in Portland this month. It is also the subject of a recent interview on OPB.
