Now in its 13th year, the Oregon State University Summer Choir presents its annual finale concert on Saturday, August 9, at 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 1165 NW Monroe Street. Admission is free. With nearly 100 participants, the OSU Summer Choir is a non-auditioned, university and community choir that provides choral conducting students with real conducting experience and music teachers with professional development. It is directed by Dr. Steven Zielke, director of choral studies. Participants range in age from high school students to seniors.

The interview associate professor of philosophy and Annares Project for Alternative Futures co-founder Joseph Orosco conducted with activist Chris Crass was picked up by Truthout, a a nonprofit organization dedicated to sparking action by revealing systemic injustice and providing a platform for transformative ideas, through in-depth investigative reporting and critical analysis.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

Nana Osei-Kofi, associate professor of women, gender, & sexuality studies, delivered a paper, “Media, Popular Culture, and Afroswedish Diasporic Identity Formation” at the 7th Global Conference on Diasporas at Mansfield College, Oxford, England in July 2014.

Assistant professor of music education Jason Silveira and associate professor of music education Tina Bull recently returned from the International Society for Music Education Conference held in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Silveira and Bull presented the results of their recent research study entitled “Development of the Processfolio: Reflections on an Authentic Assessment Tool.” This study was conducted in collaboration with music education instructor Julie Beauregard, and analyzed recent modifications to the Oregon State University Music Teacher Education capstone assessment.

Director of performance and technology Shawn Trail was recently accepted to the leading computer music conference to present research regarding an electronic music instrument he designed and built. The paper is called “DSRmarimba: Low-cost, Open Source Actuated Acoustic Marimba Framework.” Trail will present the work at the International Computer Music Conference in Athens, Greece.
