June 13

CLA’s annual Awards Ceremony and Reception for 2014 graduates will be held today, 3-5 p.m., on the front lawn of Gilkey Hall. Snacks will be provided.  All are encouraged to join in the celebration.

June 14

OSU Commencement — Graduates will process to Reser Stadium at 10:30 a.m. Rain or shine, tickets not required.

Awards and Honors

Congratulations to assistant professor of history Christopher Nichols, who was named the OSU University Honors College Outstanding Professor of the Year for 2014. Nichols received the award June 6 at the UHC Spring Picnic, and will be honored again at the annual Honors Recognition Reception June 13.  Each year, UHC asks its students to nominate their favorite professors.

Current Research, Publications and Creative Activity

CLA Associate Dean Marion Rossi was featured in Imagining America, a blog dedicated to artists and scholars in public life, for his recent Arts Deliberarium — an event that brought leaders from across Oregon together with the goal of bringing the arts to citizens through OSU’s Extension Service.

Assistant professor of music education Jason Silveira was recently invited to present his research at the University of Oregon Institute of Cognitive and Decision Sciences: Music Learning, Perception, and Cognition Focus Group. Silviera’s talk was titled “Physiological Responses to Music Performance Errors: Preliminary Results.”
