Tonight, at 7:30 p.m., the OSU Chamber Choir, directed by Steven Zielke, will perform works by Brahms, Duke Ellington, Rene Clausen, and OSU Alumni Joshua Rist, at the Oregon Collegiate Choral Festival in St. Anne’s Chapel on the campus of Marylhurst University. The University of Oregon Chamber Choir and several choirs from Marylhurst will also perform.

The Creative Writing MFA Reading Series will host its monthly reading at New Morning Bakery (219 SW 2nd St, Corvallis) at 7:30 p.m. Writers will read selections in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.

March 14

The Music à la Carte Concert Series completed its winter term series on today, with a performance by Corvallis Celtic Band, “Lark.” The series will resume for spring term on Friday, April 4 with the Portland area ensemble, “Thousand Waves,” comprised of Koto (a stringed instrument of Japan), guitar, flute, violin and percussion. The free concert begins at 12 p.m. in the Memorial Union Lounge.

School of Psychological Science Associate Professor Aurora Sherman is receiving national attention for her study which examined how playing with fashion dolls influences girls’ perceptions about their future occupational options.  Barbie could dampen a young girl’s career dreams.  Although the marketing slogan suggests that Barbie can “Be Anything,” girls who play with this extremely popular doll see fewer career options available to themselves compared to boys.

Music Coordinator and Choral Director Steven Zielke just returned from Jacksonville, Florida, where he was guest conductor of the Junior High School Boys Honor Choir and co-director of the Junior High Honor Choir at the American Choral Directors Association (ADCA) Southern Division Annual Conference. The Southern Division of ACDA serves the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

On March 6, psychology professor David Kerr presented a talk entitled, “Shedding some light on the winter blues” to the OSU Triad Club.
