STARS, otherwise known as the\u00a0Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System uses\u00a0the four categories\u00a0academics,\u00a0engagement, operations, planning and administration as well as one additional innovation category to gauge campus sustainability. Gold is the second highest rating that a university can receive.<\/p>\n<p>This designation comes from the work Oregon State has done in\u00a0research, campus engagement, campus grounds and diversity and affordability.\u00a0OSU also received glowing remarks from STARS administrators about the two innovation credits the university submitted.\u00a0 One covers its commitment to improving student food access and food security by accepting federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, on campus.\u00a0 The second innovation submission discusses the success of OSU\u2019s full transition to reusable food to-go containers rather than disposables.\u00a0 More info about these and other highlights are in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fa.oregonstate.edu\/sites\/fa.oregonstate.edu\/files\/sustainability\/docs\/fy16_sustainability_report.pdf\">OSU\u2019s FY16 Annual Sustainability Report<\/a>.
