Fourty-five years ago, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson helped drive communities across the U.S.\u00a0 to organize teach-ins for the environment on April 22, 1970 \u2013 the first Earth Day. Right here on our campus, OSU students put together a series of events, participating in this landmark date. While Earth Day-related festivities have not occurred every year since, our annual celebration has been going strong for what will be the 15th consecutive year this year!<\/p>\n

This year, we are taking our celebration even further beyond – both by extending the celebration for greater than one week and by better showcasing how the environment is interconnected with people and issues of justice. We’re calling it Beyond Earth Day<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The celebration runs Saturday April 18th through Tuesday April 28th<\/strong> at a variety of locations on and off campus.<\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re interested in checking out over 40 booths at the 15th annual\u00a0Community Fair<\/a>, stompin\u2019 your foot to live music at the annual Organic Growers Club\u00a0<\/a>Hoo Haa<\/a>, taking a\u00a0walking tour<\/a>\u00a0to learn about OSU\u2019s water features, watching an environmental film, or creating an earth justice\u00a0chalk mural<\/a>, this year\u2019s Beyond Earth Day offers all that and so much more. The primary organizers and sponsors of Beyond Earth Day are Campus Recycling,<\/a> the Student Sustainability Initiative<\/a> and the Sustainability Office<\/a>. However, any local organization is invited to participate, which is one thing that makes OSU\u2019s program so unique. Participating groups for 2015 include OSU student groups and departments, local nonprofits, and government agencies. See the list of participating organizations here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
