The meeting will be at 7pm at the\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\">Corvallis-Benton County Public Library (645 NW Monroe Ave).<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px;font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;line-height: 16.0029983520508px;text-align: left;background-color: #f8f7f5\"><span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\"> <\/span><br \/>\nThe city of Corvallis is currently a\u00a0quarterfinalist for the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #d85a1a;text-decoration: none\" href=\"http:\/\/guep.org\/\">Prize<\/a>, a $5 million incentive to reduce energy consumption. But now that we\u2019ve made it this far, we need everyone\u2019s help to save more energy than the 49 other American cities in the competition. At the upcoming meeting, attendees will\u00a0learn how they can save energy at home with local programs and incentives and how they can help Corvallis win the $5 million Energy Prize.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px;font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;line-height: 16.0029983520508px;text-align: left;background-color: #f8f7f5\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;line-height: 16.0029983520508px;background-color: #f8f7f5\">The $5 million GUEP prize will be awarded to the community that reduces its residential and municipal use of metered electricity and natural gas more than any other contest entrant.<\/span>The winning city will be judged based on reductions in energy use, innovation of approach, quality of community outreach, sustainability, and replicability.\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\">The Corvallis application was submitted \u00a0in June, including letters of support from numerous local businesses and non-profits, Mayor Julie Manning, the Corvallis City Council, and all three utilities: Pacific Power, Consumers Power and Northwest Natural. <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\">Members of the <\/span><a style=\"color: #d85a1a;text-decoration: none\" href=\"http:\/\/sustainablecorvallis.org\/\">Corvallis Sustainability Coalition<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\">\u2019s Energy Action Team (EAT) and <\/span><a style=\"color: #d85a1a;text-decoration: none\" href=\"http:\/\/energizecorvallis.org\/\">Energize Corvallis<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 16.0029983520508px\"> \u2013 a project of the Corvallis Environmental Center \u2013 spent months assembling the town\u2019s application.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6614  alignnone\" title=\"Georgetown\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/10\/Georgetown1.jpg\" alt=\"Georgetown\" width=\"422\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/10\/Georgetown1.jpg 549w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/10\/Georgetown1-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 422px) 100vw, 422px\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px;font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;line-height: 16.0029983520508px;text-align: left;background-color: #f8f7f5\">The goals of the GUEP are to foster innovative approaches to energy efficiency, educate the public and engage students in energy issues, and to grow markets for products &amp; services that facilitate energy efficiency.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px;font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;line-height: 16.0029983520508px;text-align: left;background-color: #f8f7f5\">The final stage of the two-year competition began on January 1st, and now it\u2019s time for us to put our best foot forward to help make Corvallis a national leader in sustainability!
