{"id":562,"date":"2011-03-02T17:01:19","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T00:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/?p=562"},"modified":"2011-03-02T17:01:19","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T00:01:19","slug":"recyclemania-a-recap-plus-what-is-yet-to-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2011\/03\/02\/recyclemania-a-recap-plus-what-is-yet-to-come\/","title":{"rendered":"RecycleMania: A Recap, Plus What is Yet to Come!"},"content":{"rendered":"<dl id=\"attachment_564\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 312px\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-564 alignleft\" title=\"Recycled Structure\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2011\/03\/Recycled-Structure.jpg\" alt=\"Recycled Structure\" width=\"272\" height=\"183\" \/><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<p>We are halfway through <a href=\"http:\/\/recycle.oregonstate.edu\/recyclemania\">RecycleMania <\/a>and so far OSU has recycled and composted <strong>247,269 lbs<\/strong> &#8211; up more than 50,000 lbs over this time last year!<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve held many events over the term and have many yet to come. Two weeks ago we displayed our <strong>sea creature made by OSU students, out of recycled materials<\/strong>. It generated a lot of interest in the Memorial Union Quad as well as on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/osurecycling\">Facebook <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/osurecycling\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-567 alignright\" title=\"Swap\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2011\/03\/RM-Swap.jpg\" alt=\"Swap\" width=\"135\" height=\"172\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just last week the <a href=\"http:\/\/studenthealth.oregonstate.edu\/pha\">Peer Health Advocates<\/a> braved the chilly weather to run a <strong>clothing and household swap<\/strong> in the MU Quad, and <a href=\"http:\/\/asosu.oregonstate.edu\/\">ASOSU<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/recycle.oregonstate.edu\">Campus Recycling<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/surplus.oregonstate.edu\">Surplus Property<\/a> coordinated e-waste collection sites across campus.<\/p>\n<p>We collected <strong>4,801 lbs of e-waste<\/strong> in just two days (10 event hours), up 673 lbs over last year&#8217;s e-waste collection events!<\/p>\n<p>But we&#8217;re not giving up there&#8230;we&#8217;re bringing you much more! Consider homemade menstrual pads!  They are comfortably customized to your use and preference, and are a  healthy alternative to the variety of chemicals found in synthetic  products. Nothing to buy and nothing to throw out! \u201cOn the Rag\u201d never  felt this good. \u00a0This intimately set class gets women together to design  and fashion reusable cloth menstrual pads. Patterns and materials will  be provided. Sponsored by the Women\u2019s Center.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966\"><strong>Recycle Fashion Show<\/strong><\/span><strong> Thurs, Mar 3, 7pm (doors open at 6pm), MU Ballroom (<em>$5<\/em>)<\/strong> OSU students showcase their sense of design through the OSU Fashion  Organization\u2019s annual Recycle Fashion Show. This year\u2019s show, Dumpsters  to Diamonds, is sure to bring in a record amount of spectators and  student designers. Tickets are $5 each and will be sold in the MU Quad  Feb 28 through Mar 3 at 10am \u2013 2pm each day. The show will start  promptly at 7pm on March 3, with standing room being let in at 7pm. Be  sure to make it on time if you want to get a good seat!
