{"id":261,"date":"2010-10-21T16:23:36","date_gmt":"2010-10-21T23:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/?p=261"},"modified":"2010-10-21T16:23:36","modified_gmt":"2010-10-21T23:23:36","slug":"recycling-for-the-greater-good-at-homecoming-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2010\/10\/21\/recycling-for-the-greater-good-at-homecoming-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Recycling for the Greater Good at Homecoming 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/2010\/09\/osu-participating-in-epa-game-day-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\">As mentioned previously on this blog<\/a>, OSU has signed up to participate in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/epawaste\/partnerships\/wastewise\/challenge\/gameday\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">EPA Game Day Challenge<\/a> this year, a nationwide competition between universities to reduce waste at football games. We will be bringing together a team of 50+ volunteers at the October 30<sup>th<\/sup> home football game to <strong>both increase recycling and fight hunger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With the help these volunteers, <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/groups\/sife\/\" target=\"_blank\">OSU SIFE<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csc.gen.or.us\/foodshare.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Linn Benton Food Share<\/a>, container deposits will be redeemed and contributed to the food share to help fight hunger in our community.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">There are three ways to volunteer:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>9:00 am \u2013 1:00 pm shift: Tailgater Recycling Collection<\/strong> Be part of a team roving through tailgating areas with recycle bins prior to the game, collecting recyclables from fans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>10:00 am \u2013 2:00 pm shift: Receiving and Loading<\/strong> Be part of team that receives the material, sorts it if needed, and loads it into a truck.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>10:30 am &#8211; 12:30 pm shift: Stadium Gate Recycling<\/strong> Staff waste stations at the stadium gates, helping fans sort their material into recycling and trash.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">All volunteers will <strong>meet at the Reser Stadium loading dock<\/strong> on 26th St across from LaSells (behind a row of hedges).<\/span> For more information, please contact Andrea Norris via <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/tools\/mailform?to=andrea.norris@oregonstate.edu\" target=\"_blank\">email <\/a>or at 541-737-5398.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>If you&#8217;re attending the game<\/strong>, you can help us boost our numbers:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Give recyclables to volunteers in tailgating areas.<\/strong> Volunteers will roam the tailgating areas with recycle carts to collect  glass,  metal, plastic, paper, and cardboard. If you do not see a  volunteer, you can  contribute your recyclables by taking them to the  stadium gates as you enter  the game.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pack it in, pack it out, or use designated trash bins.<\/strong> While tailgating, consider bringing trash home with you to help us  reduce  litter and waste.
