{"id":11024,"date":"2018-09-14T15:41:14","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T22:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/?p=11024"},"modified":"2018-09-14T15:46:23","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T22:46:23","slug":"2018-aashe-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2018\/09\/14\/2018-aashe-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 AASHE Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We posted an article on the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aashe.org\/\">AASHE<\/a>) last month, because OSU earned a gold rating in their Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &amp; Rating System (<a href=\"https:\/\/stars.aashe.org\/\">STARS<\/a>).This was a huge achievement for OSU, because STARS is a comprehensive system that measures sustainability performance and we ranked at the second highest level out of five levels of sustainability. Read this primer on AASHE, borrowed from our previous article <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2018\/08\/22\/osu-in-the-sustainable-campus-index-2018\/\">\u201cOSU in the Sustainable Campus Index 2018!\u201d <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) is a coalition comprised of over 900 higher education institutions, businesses, and other organizations; it exists to support higher education faculty, administrators, staff and students as they \u201clead the global sustainability transformation.\u201d AASHE aims to contribute to a more equitable and ecologically healthy world through the avenue of higher education. The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &amp; Rating System (STARS) is one of AASHE\u2019s most impactful programs for empowering institutions of higher education to be global leaders of sustainability.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">About the 2018 AASHE Conference<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aashe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/AASHE_2018Conf_EmailBanner_Final.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) also holds the largest annual conference on sustainability in higher education and surrounding communities. This year, the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aashe.org\/conference\/\"> AASHE conference<\/a> is taking place in Pittsburgh from October 2nd to October 5th and is expected to draw over 2,000 participants! According to AASHE, campus representatives come from a diverse background and include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senior campus administrators<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Campus planners, purchasers and other staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Facility, dining and transportation officers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Administrators of system offices<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Campus faculty<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sustainability officers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Business managers and owners<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consultants<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Environmental and energy-related government agencies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Business sustainability directors and managers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Construction project managers, builders, contractors, architects and designers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AASHE exhibitors are businesses, higher education institutions, and non-profits who aim to demonstrate to decision makers and institutions how their services can contribute to a sustainable future.
