They educate residents about sustainable lifestyles and resources, assist with marketing and outreach, and plan and execute sustainability-focused events.\u00a0 They also maintain their hall&#8217;s composting program. Last year, the Eco-Reps reached people an amazing 9,785 times and composted over 1,741 lbs. of material!\u00a0In this series, we will spotlight each Eco Rep to help you learn more about who they are and what they do.<\/p>\n<p>Meet Ian Reed!<\/p>\n<p>Residence Hall they work in:\u00a0McNary<\/p>\n<p>Hometown:\u00a0Puyallup, Washington<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2018\/01\/IMG_6998.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10378 size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2018\/01\/IMG_6998-e1515706336403-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2018\/01\/IMG_6998-e1515706336403-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2018\/01\/IMG_6998-e1515706336403-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Major\/Future Plans:\u00a0Ian is a Zoology major, and plan on double-majoring with Zoology and Sustainability. In the future, he wants to work as a Zoologist in the field, and his dream is to work with big cats.<\/p>\n<p>Previous involvement\/interest in sustainability:\u00a0Ian volunteered at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium for 7 years before coming to OSU, and there he helped run many conservation and sustainability efforts especially when it came to connecting animal conservation to the public<\/p>\n<p>Favorite thing about being an EcoRep:\u00a0Having the ability to get people on campus involved in sustainability, and having a new network of like-minded people to work with.<\/p>\n<p>Goals for the coming year:Ian would like to get lots of people involved in sustainability, and hopefully learn to be more sustainable himself. He also wants to be more involved on campus in clubs and events<\/p>\n<p>Interests in continuing involvement in sustainability on campus and how so:\u00a0Ian think it\u2019s an important part of his career and his commitment to try and improve the earth\u2019s wellbeing, and if enough of us decide to make a change then it can make a huge impact<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eco-reps are an Oregon State program that are responsible for encouraging a culture of sustainability in the residence halls in which they live.
