The last home football game of the year was this past weekend, ending with a bang at the 114th annual Civil War game. What many attending the games may not know about is the team of volunteers who come together every game, helping OSU with its recycling initiative.
OSU Campus Recycling collects about 3,000 lbs of recyclables at an average home game; we collected 6,456 lbs at the game shown in the video (the EPA Game Day Challenge). We partnered with OSU SIFE and Linn Benton Food Share to not only collect recycling from the stadium gates, as we do at every game, but also collect from tailgating areas. An additional team of volunteers sorted material to pull out deposit containers, collecting 6,620 bottles and cans that were redeemed for the food share.
