In celebration of Local Eats Week, multiple restaurants in the local area are currently offering special $6 plates of delicious, locally-sourced food. From October 18 until the 24, restaurants will have a special dish available that is made with local ingredients from the six surrounding counties of Linn, Benton, Lane, Lincoln, Marion, and Polk. The event is a brainchild of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, and is sponsored by the First Alternative Co-op. Participating restaurants include: Alley Gyros, Aqua, Big River, Block 15, Bombs Away, BrewBQ, Cirello’s Pizza, Cloud & Kelley’s, Eat & Drink 101, First Alternative Co-op Deli, Flat Tail, Le Patissier, Les Caves, Luc, Magenta, Nearly Normal’s, and New Morning Bakery.
The last day of Local Eats Week ends on October 24, which is National Food Day – a day to raise awareness about food waste and the importance of eating what food you take. Activities will be help from 5:30pm to 9pm at Dennis Hall on 9th and Monroe. There will be food samples and workshops, which will range from ways to helps kids eat healthier to how to make your own chili relish – there’s something for everyone.
The idea is founded on the push for more local ingredients that would support the six neighboring counties and their economies.
