Start the year 2017 working to strengthen the greater Corvallis community! Registration for the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service on Saturday January 14th is open and plenty of spaces remain available! Students, faculty, staff, and their partners and children are all invited to participate in OSU’s largest day of service of the year. Projects will take place at various times with all projects starting in the morning. A light breakfast, snacks, and hot lunch will be provided to volunteers by Global Community Kitchen. Check in will be located in the MU Horizon Room 49, and transportation to all projects will be provided.

Pre-registration is required! Volunteers can learn about the 13 projects offered and register online through the Center for Civic Engagement website: http://sli.oregonstate.edu/mlk. Projects include Habitat for Humanity, Linn Benton Food Share, Corvallis Parks & Recreation, Meals on Wheels (Craft ‘N Care), Produce for the People, Heartland Humane Society, Oregon Veterans Home in Lebanon, Campus Clean-Up with Smoke-Free Campus, Whiteside Theatre, SAGE Garden, Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis, and more.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is about coming together to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy and help further his dream for peace by serving our neighbors and strengthening our communities. MLK Day is a perfect opportunity for us to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, builds bridges, breaks down barriers, addresses social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of strong, beloved communities.

Plan on kicking off 2017 and the 35th annual OSU Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration by committing yourself to a day of service.
