Sustainability in a school’s curriculum is crucial to fostering a campus culture that uses resources wisely, out of care for and understanding of the environment. But it is hard to identify what specific classes/instructors have a focus on sustainability. You can read someone’s research and think, “this is sort of sustainability related, but it doesn’t really address economic issues”. The researcher may totally disagree. Likewise, you can read a course syllabus, and think “what does music culture have to do with sustainability”? The instructor may say, “music is a form of expression, and in many places, is related to highly meaningful symbols or ideals which represent local resources and the importance of conservation”. So any thoughts on how we figure out which classes are related to sustainability without having to actually take them?
