In fact, research finds tens of millions of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\/~\/media\/assets\/2016\/05\/antibioticuseinoutpatientsettings.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions<\/a>are written each year in the outpatient setting, like doctors&#8217; offices, alone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Raw-s1c0aj93-0 bGubZN\">\n<p>While certainly there are some clinical judgment calls, factors associated with this glut of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/health.usnews.com\/health-news\/patient-advice\/articles\/2016-09-19\/are-antibiotics-really-appropriate-for-what-ails-you\">overprescribing<\/a>\u00a0often have little or nothing to do with what&#8217;s in the patient&#8217;s best interest.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/health.usnews.com\/health-news\/patient-advice\/articles\/2016-04-21\/why-the-first-patient-is-less-likely-to-get-antibiotics\">Even the time of day<\/a>\u00a0a patient sees a doctor (later in the day) has been linked to a greater likelihood that person will be prescribed an antibiotic.
