Transcribe for DAS

Are you in need of a part-time job? OSU Disability Access Services (DAS) is looking to hire several new transcribers.

Real-Time Transcribing is an accommodation offered through DAS, which allows students access to a meaning-for-meaning written version of their lectures during class. Transcribers are hired on a part-time (up to 20 hours per week) basis. Because these are part-time positions, they are open for anyone, including OSU students.

Any applicants must be able to successfully complete Typewell Certification before they can begin transcribing classes. This Career Expo, specifically designed for job seekers and veterans with disabilities, will give you a chance to interact with all kinds of prospective employers – from local utility companies to international corporations.

Virtual BioMedical Grad School Fair

Are you interested in BioMedical programs for graduate school? You now can visit with representatives from programs around the country by participating in a free online grad school fair for students with disabilities.

Presented by BioGAP and provided through the online virtual career fair service, CareerEco, the BioMedical Sciences Grad School fair will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

Summer Internships in Washington D.C.

“Participating in an internship is a great way to learn new skills and develop your personal and professional interests. You can expand your network and make connections while gaining valuable work experience. Please consider exploring the Greater Washington Internship Coalition, a group of internship programs based in the greater Washington, DC area that looks to include young people with disabilities. The Coalition is a one-stop opportunity for college students with disabilities and emerging professionals with disabilities to seek and receive information on unique internship programs for them!

“Some of these internship programs are specifically for people with disabilities, while others are looking to include more students with disabilities in their programs. Most programs are based in Washington, DC, though some are nationwide, and many (though not all) provide a stipend, pay, or even housing so that it is easier for all students to come to DC for a semester or the summer. You can explore the webpage here: www.aapd.com/internshipcoalition, and follow the links to each organization’s webpage to find out more the internship requirements and to apply. Questions about specific internship programs should be directed to each organization.

Disability Employment Survey & A Chance to Win $500

The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) is asking for participants in a survey on disability and employment.

Follow this link to take the survey.

The survey takes about 10 minutes, you can opt-in for a chance to win $500.

From NCIL: “The survey questions are well designed and have the power to shape debate about disability policy. Power and control of policies can be ours for the taking, but we need a very large sample size and strong participation from the grassroots disability community to ensure that the results are valid.

“The results of this poll will be shared with the White House, all 50 Governors, top media, disability groups, and more!

“Anything that you can do to engage a broad range of stakeholders to fill out the survey would be greatly appreciated. Please share the survey with your Twitter, Facebook and email followers.

“The results of each individual will be confidential, but the overall results will be made public.

Career Mentoring with NRTC

Attention, college students graduating next year who are legally (or totally) blind. The National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) is pairing students nationwide with mentors who are also legally blind and working in a similar field of interest.

Opportunities include face-to-face mentoring, job shadowing, and networking.  They offer career preparation resources and student incentives to participate.

Students must be under age 35 and should sign up by December 2013.  Professionals who are blind and interested in serving as mentors are also encouraged to apply. Incight is looking for job seekers with disabilities

Incight, a non-profit organization based out of Portland, OR is looking for job seekers with disabilities to participate in a Live Resume event on August 16.

What: Live Resume is an opportunity for job seekers to present their experiences and credentials in person to 10-15 employers. Selected participants will have three minutes to verbally present themselves to employers. After the presentations there is 45 minutes of networking.

Who: Job ready individuals who want to meet local businesses, work on their networking skills and practice their interviewing technique.

When: August16, 2012 – 7:30a.m. – 9:30a.m.

Where: Selected participants will be informed of the location

Why: To find gainful employment.

How? Please read this carefully – Participation in Live Resume is a competitive process, there are twenty spots for job seekers. Interested individuals with disabilities need to submit their resumes and what type of job you’re are looking for to Tiana Tozer at tiana@incight.org no later than July 20, 2012. Depending on the number of resumes, individuals may be asked to provide additional information. Resumes and additional information, if requested, will be reviewed and selected candidates will be asked to come in for a pre-interview at the Incight office in downtown Portland. Pre-screening interviews will take place July 23-25 and July 30–August 1. Candidates who are selected to participate in the actual event will be expected to attend a practice session also in downtown Portland on Monday August 13. The actual event will take place on Thursday, August 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
